La Peña Horeb Spanish Restaurant — Restaurant in Virginia

I really just wanted to share my experience with this restaurant now I've been living here in Virginia for about 4 years and honestly been searching and searching for Dominican food I've found Puerto Rican Mexican but never did find Dominican so one day when my sister was in town from Florida she says I want some Spanish food I said well there's Puerto Rican and Mexican but really I haven't found anything else something says go on Google I went and found one which was this restaurant so we drove about 30 mins to come to this restaurant so we get there and I went in and asked for a take out menu and he says he doesn't have one but he gave me his regular menu I said I'ma step out for a few and bring it back he says ok I went outside to see what my sister wanted came back in and order the young man at the register my God was so friendly so nice very soft spoken I just had real good vibes in there I went outside and waited with my sister for the food and came back in and it was ready I order the pork chop meal with pico I get the food went back out side and started eating so did she really we wanted to take it home but the smell was on point so we started eating when I tell you the portion sizes are hugh and I ain't gonna lie I'ma a big back lol so if I can say the portion was on point I mean this the food was amazing from start to finish everything was on point I'll give this restaurant from customer service because of that one friendly young guy to the food I'll give it a 10 my only problem with this restaurant is that it's kinda hidin that's it but I promise you if you get a experience like mine you will not be disappointed at All trust and believe this my new...

Only reason I give it 1 star is so I can leave my comment. This is the worst Puertorican Dominican Restaurant I have ever eaten from,, the white rice & beans had absolutely no taste what so ever,, the rice with pigeon peas (arroz con guandules has a little more taste) the roasted pork (what we call pernil) is not oven baked, it’s actually cooked in a crockpot that’s why it’ comes out so stringing,, what there serving is actually pulled pork I asked for the skin witch I love nicely toasted & they didn’t have it because of the way they cook the pork,, the mofongo is dry & had absolutely no chicharrón in it at all, the most you can taste is the garlic,, el pollo guisado had a tad of flavor but way to greasy,, the pepper steak was washed in vinegar,, & the alcapurria were like tooth picks, absolutely HORRIBLE!! I would not recommend this restaurant to any one. Sad that has Latinos in Virginia we’re very limited & to not have a decent Latino restaurant you can enjoy your traditional food. As far as Dominican Food wowww that’s a joke the only thing on the menu that’s pure Dominican is the Mangú that I can’t comment on since I didn’t taste it & the Morir Soñando Drink now the drink I can maybe give it 3 stars,, it tasted right but to small of a drink for what they charge & way to much ice. We actually ordered another one & this drink can be pretty filling. So thumbs down 👎🏽...

The best I can say about this place is the service. Our server was a very friendly young man who was very attentive to our needs. The food was wonderful. We had authentic Puerto Rican food which I gave 4 out of 5 stars. Only reason I didn't give it five was because, growing up in a Puerto Rican family, I still feel that my mother's and grandmother's cooking was still better. But everyone's Mom always cooks better. My lowest score was for the atmosphere which I gave 3 out of 5. That's mainly because it was too cold in there and I overheard other customers ask about making it a bit warmer, but nothing was done. Also there was no working bathroom. This is something that really is not acceptable. Your guest should be made comfortable and they can't be comfortable if they need to use a restroom and there's none to use. I believe federal law states that any establishment serving food and drinks must provide a working bathroom for their patrons. If it had been my call, I'd have immediately called a plumber and had the bathroom issues fixed before opening...
