My first Mexican restaurant while in VA and I will say it was rather a let down after reading all the highly rated reviews.
I don’t blame the establishment though, it’s just really hard to find good Mexican food anywhere except for MX and their bordering states. I’ve learn to just accept it though. Lol
Firstly, the restaurant was clean - always a plus. The chips are a bit hard, but I’m finding that to be the norm at most MX restaurants in the northern states. The salsa was very much your standard tomato base and my guess is they use a lot of tomato paste in it, sorta like Picante sauce. Not my favorite, but the queso was really good - so that made up for it. The sweet tea really could’ve used another 1/2c of sugar in it - I swapped it out for soda so not a biggie.
I ordered the chicken & beef taquitos. They were overcooked slightly but my guess is they did that on purpose to keep them from getting soggy. The chicken ones were really good and I did eat both. The beef ones were comparable to eating jerky and I couldn’t even chew it - literally had to just spit it out - it really was THAT tough. If you go, just skip the beef and you’ll be fine. The rice was excellent, well flavored and flaky. Beef soft tacos were okay (so/so) but would’ve been so much better if they had used fresh flour tortillas instead of store bought. Real tortillas are always a game changer in my book.
Service was okay. We were seated immediately. Placed our order and it was brought out in under 5 minutes (which tells me those taquitos were definitely re-fried and explained the hard shells).
I will catagorize this as more Tex-Mex and definitely not “authentic”, however, if they adjusted their salsa, made food fresh to order, and offered homemade tortillas, they could definitely have the potential to move to...

In this particular situation, the Host who seated us was able to tell me about the other Mexico Restaurants in the Richmond area, having been started by a family that IS NOT the same one that brought in The Original Tacos on Horse Pen Road. He told me that I should go ahead and order his version of Street Tacos, and see if they measured up to the Henrico competition. The Friends arrived soon after I had been seated and received water. Sarah ordered an appetizer of very nicely seasoned and chunky guacamole; then the tacos for Stan and self came in, along with her dish, and we were talking and enjoying the conversation so very much that we did not finish the generous helpings of everything brought out. We found the food was fresh and the beans were NOT stewed together in the usual mush you get elsewhere, and all of it was tasty and wholesome, with almost no excess grease involved in the cooking of the beef and chicken comprising the tacos. Three clear plastic boxes were needed to take the leftover food to our homes for the evening supper. I told our host, also the server, that the Tacos were excellent, and Stan could actually judge that now the restaurant is better than it had been before 2020, which is a really happy accomplishment in These Days and Times. We shall...
Read moreWow, over the top service as always but really has a "BIG WOW" yesterday. I had asked for a certain type of steak meal I normally order but had another waiter yesterday and he brought me the lunch version, and I normally have the dinner version. I called the waiter over to ask him about the size difference, and he said this was the lunch version (the manager came over and listened also). He asked if he should take it back and bring me the dinner version. I said no that I would just eat that (I didn't want them wasting food). A few minutes after I started eating the manager came to my table with a small plate with another order or rice and another steak wrap. I was shocked. I've always gotten great friendly service at all the locations, but I never expected this. I thanked him very much, as this was just a "WOW" moment for me. Just Fabulous! I work at a car dealership as a Customer Relations Manager, and, in all my Wednesday early morning meetings I ask constantly if they have "WOW'd" their customers recently. That is something I preach and ask every week. It's so refreshing to be on the receiving end of some fantastic unexpected surprising service. Thanks so much and you know you always have a loyal customer for life. I hope Maria reads this and know how great her...
