Haven’t been in quite a while, so my wife and I went about 10am on a Sunday morning. It was busy but the hostess escorted us to an open booth right away. If the hostess leads you to a booth next to a booth with young kids, I suggest you ask for another booth. You’ll thank me later (otherwise you’ll feel every kick and movement from the diners behind you). The “diner” type atmosphere was great. Our server was very good. He was sociable and engaged us in conversation and made us feel welcome. The only small negative was not keeping an eye on us after we got our order. It did take time to get his attention for a coffee refill. We ordered coffee and the “Power Breakfast”. It came with wheat toast, turkey bacon, omelette, and fruit cup. The coffee was good and served hot. The omelette was prepared with feta cheese, spinach, and sun-dried tomatoes and was seasoned nicely and it tasted great. The fruit cup was just fair. Some of the fruit was overripe and some was underripe. After the meal you pay via credit card right at the table via the server’s handheld device. The 15% tip is no longer a popular choice with restaurants. The lowest choice of the tip amount shown on a button was 20%, which I always give at a minimum anyway. However, I miss the “olden days” when you could feel good when you gave a great tip for great service, from your heart, without feeling like it’s expected and mandated. Parking is limited when they are busy. Several vehicles blocked my way out due to them waiting for someone about to pull out of a parking place. All in all it’s a good place to eat. I thought the prices were a bit pricey but fully understandable. I must have seen at least 20 employees busy at the front of the house working their various jobs (not counting those that were probably working in the back) so I’m sure the prices are justified and just trying to cover costs of food and labor. With tax and tip it was just over $50 for our breakfast for two. I’ll definitely go again, but not every week or...
Read moreThis review receives a single star for one main reason. We visited this location on Monday, Feb 28 just after 8pm. We had a long week as both parents where hospitalized all week at Sentora Hospital about a mile away. My father had been discharged from the hospital that afternoon and we spent the rest of the day with my mother who is still there. My father being 84 years old, does not eat large portions anymore especially that late in the evening. We noticed a display on the table for a healthy children's meal of salmon, rice and mixed vegetables. We tried to order this for my father, but the waiter refused stating it was for children under the age of 12 only. We asked to speak with the manager and she not only concurred with the waiter, but also spoke to us as a school teacher scolding her students when we told her that they often, like other seniors, order from the children's menu because they simply do not eat as much as they did when they were younger and did not want to waste the food. The manage said she would allow it this one time, but next time we would not be able to order from the children's menu. We almost walked out, but it was late and we had a long day. After we left, I googled the policy and found that she was not honest. Silver Diner does NOT have a 12 and under only policy for ordering from the children's menu. To confirm what I found, I called the locations in Rockville, Gaithersburg, and Tyson's Corner and they all confirmed that not only could they order this children's menu item, but that it was a healthy and good portion size for seniors. NOTE: No where on the table display was any mention of an age restriction for this or any children's meal. It was not on the display or the menu about an age restriction. I'll be calling the day manager to bring this to his attention and let him/her know that I posted this review. Hopefully they will better train their staff. FYI, if we order this as a to go item, how would they know if we had a child under 12 at...
Read more11-9-22 4-7pm…extremely warm & welcoming host & a beautiful diner but seating is smothered. Several waitresses standing around upon entry but there was only 1 server working tables who was clearly new. MOD kept busy but was oblivious to my poor experience. My burger was delivered to the wrong table number and the order I received was rushed with no presentation at all, wilted, limp and missing topping…I do a better job at home. Blond hair waitress who dropped off my plate seemed annoyed and put my plate on the edge of the table instead of in front of me then bolted off. Fries were cold and dry. I waisted an hour waiting for my Yuengling beer that was ordered when I sat down (bottle was barely cold). When the waiter finally checked on me I told him my food was wrong but I was eating it because he took so long to check on me. He offered to remake the burger but 2hrs passed at this point and I declined but suggested a dessert for the inconvenience. He agreed then immediately delivered the dessert with my food not even half way eaten. Needless to say it was melted and messy by the time I ate it and the bottom crust wasn’t fully cooked. When he delivered the bill I was charged for the dessert and he seemed oblivious to our earlier conversation so I paid for everything and still tipped him well. I don’t understand why more staff didn’t help this young man. I don’t understand why the MOD wasn’t aware of what was happening, he seemed to cater to the large group who was dining. Also, I prefer servers use trays and don’t carry my food balanced on their arms and use a napkin when you’re holding my plate. The concept of the restaurant is awesome; the dinner chef however is awful. Overpriced for the service provided, lack of presentation and quality of ingredients. This restaurant will be great when...
