I was a member of Tailored Smoke the previous year so my review is based on many visits. The lounge has a great atmosphere so I would come here to do work and have a drink or bite. Their food is really good, everything I ever ate had great flavor and presentation! Eventually the things stopped me from visiting was the service and lack of consistency. One person would make a drink really good and then someone else would make the same drink and it would either be terrible or a completely different drink. One day a certain drink would be part of their happy hour and different day it wasn’t. It always felt like a gamble, especially when the drinks aren’t cheap.
And while the staff was always nice, the service would be slow, even when it was empty. One time we had to ask for water multiple times because our server kept forgetting to bring it - there were no other tables. Once we ordered a charcuterie board and waited for about 30 minutes for someone to tell us that they had to run to Food Lion to get some of the things!
The last time I visited we sat and waited for over 10 minutes for someone to greet us. There was only one other person sitting at the bar and 3 employees in the front. About 5 mins after being sat, one of the gentleman from the front walked through, nodded at us, grabbed something from behind the bar and went back out front. No one ever came to help us. And as we left, the 3 employees who were still chatting in the font just said bye as we left. It was the strangest experience I’ve ever had and just never felt right going back since. I still think about the buffalo lemon pepper...
Read moreFirst off I have to thank the owners. I was made to feel at home. Their old fashioned’s are one of a kind. They went out of their way to make me feel welcome. I went back a second time.
Now for some background. This is 10/10/25. The artists playing are having a good time. The drummer has touch, the bass (unfortunately) sticks in his place, the keys as well, just providing what’s needed for this young Erykah Badu/Jill Scott. She throwing melodies over melodies that slides like butter (not Parkay), in a room filled with smoke. She was belting like a mad lady, regardless of the fumes. Although, her notes could be resolved more often, I can get where she’s coming from. It was exciting and revealing to hear a woman crave relationship so much. We rarely see to grit of real intimacy in today’s world. She really cut through that tonight.
I’m a whyte boi from Louisiana. I’m just stopping by. I’m the only saltine in the room. Everyone even affiliated with this great business addressed me. I don’t know who worked there or who owned it, but everyone that addressed me took ownership with their kindness.
I’m so happy I got the Tailored experience. And thank you Brittany.
Edit* guitar you can riff all day
I also have to mention how that group or band gave space to each other. It was impressive how attentive they were to the song,...
Read moreI have visited this lounge several times. Last night was a VERY disappointing experience. I brought one of my Sorority sisters to demonstrate how not all lounges in Hampton Roads have a young and hood atmosphere. We came to visit because of reggae night. Arrived around 6:30pm to get a good seat (it gets crowded) at the bar. The little girl who was the bartender attitude was VERY nasty. Honestly I wanted to throw my drink in her face. As someone who bartended throughout graduate school, I know how dealing with the public can be stressful but damn. I usually order the salmon egg rolls and they must of changed chefs because this time around the food was not good. We waited for the DJ only until 9:30pm and decided to leave (the DJ was supposed to be there by 9pm) not sure if the DJ showed or not. I hope this place will not turn into a young crowd be bop lounge because Lord knows there’s plenty in this area. Hopefully next visit will be better but I will not be back no time soon. Did I say the little girl bartender was...
