I’ve been looking for a decent sushi spot for over a year now and decided to try Sushi Yoma. We went for dinner on a Friday, and it was fully packed by 6 pm. It’s a small gem, so either get there early or call ahead!
Let’s get to the food! Hands down, best quality sushi I’ve had thus far. I ordered the sashimi dinner which had 6-7 different cuts of fish. And the portions are huge and for a fraction of the cost of other sushi spots. Presentation was beautiful, complements to the chef!
My husband got the yakiniku dinner, which he stated was “absolutely delicious!” Dinners usually come with a small miso-ginger dressing, and miso soup. I also got agedashi tofu which was alright, and a rainbow and Newport News roll. Rolls were decent and also for a great price.
If you visit on a busy day/night, please be patient as this is a small restaurant and the sushi might take a while to get to you. Kitchen items will come out before your sushi order, but in my opinion, it was worth the wait. So good! Also the waitress is so sweet and so wonderful! She was the only waitress so also be patient as she is running around and making sure everyone has...
Read moreI went here for lunch with my coworkers. The service was friendly and quick, although there was only one server who was also host working the dining room.
Their "lunch menu" has a higher price point than most lunch fare, but it is served in dinner sized portions.
I ordered chirashi, miso soup, and hot green tea, which is my standard order at sushi restaurants. The chirashi was excellent. The fish was fresh and very high quality. The salmon was especially buttery. Each piece was surprisingly large, although the cuts were somewhat uneven. The dish also included mackerel, which is a welcome sight for sushi regulars, but uncommon in this region. It lacked pickled vegetables and octopus, but I would forgive them for that, given the quality of the other portions.
They provided a tasty and unique sample roll as an appetizer, which was very nice.
Presentation was typical for good sushi restaurants. The miso soup and tea were also good, although uneventful.
The dining room is small, so be prepared to wait during high-volume times. However, it has a bright and homey feeling to it, which is very plesant.
I will definitely be...
Read moreWooooooow. My first time in Virginia and I was craving some fish after perusing the beach, so we came here. Damn it was tasty and not as ridiculously pretentious as some places in LA.
Had a cornucopia of delectable items, ranging from sashimi to sushi to appetizers. Yeah I bought all that stuff because I'm a straight up baller. Just kidding my girlfriend paid for it I don't have a job :D she's great!!!
The yellowtail was my favorite of all the sashimi, so soft and moist and lovely on the tongue.
The soft shell crab was amazing. The shumai was amazing. The sp dragon roll was amazing. Damn it everything was good.
The shrimp head was the only thing that was questionable...I'm not ready for that kind of commitment
Mr. and Mrs. Han were incredibly friendly, and you can tell that good customer service is their specialty.
Oh and the mochi ice cream dessert was soooo clutch. It was essentially Kyrie Irving's game 7 3 pointer in the 2016 finals.
