So this a new spot here in Newport News. I’m excited that we are finally getting some new restaurants on this side of the water.
Anyways, if you blink, you’ll miss this spot. It’s small but quaint. When I walked in I was greeted by the friendly host. I ordered the Pani puri, garlic naan, goat biryani and a mango lassi. Because it was late, I took it to go. Since everything was made from scratch, it took about 20 mins for me to get my order.
I loved the flavors in the biryani, they were soooo delicious. However, my only complaint is that there were large seeds (maybe tamarind) in the rice…I counted 4 so far. And I bit down on one and hurt my mouth. I would advise them to remove the seeds especially since the rice is complex and we can’t see the seeds. The Pani puri was interesting, I probably wouldn’t order it again. I think it was missing chutney. You crack the top of the ball, put the potato mixture inside and then dip it in the green water. I saw others who had a chutney, but when I got home, I didn’t have one. The garlic naan was so fresh and flavorful as well. I will...
Read moreFirst time at Desi Kitchen.
It's a new place, only a few months old in Newport News and I wanted to give it a try since I've been craving Tikka Masala.
First Impression:
The dining area was super clean and the staff was so polite!
I found this place by taking advantage of the "Yelp757 Deal" going on this month (November) that gets u a meal for $7.57 at participating local restaurants.
The meal at Desi Kitchen comes w rice and your choice of sauce, 2 samosas, naan and a drink.
Let me say, The food was AMAZING! The ingredients were fresh and everything was made to order. I almost forgot to take a photo! LOL
It's in the same shopping center as the IHOP on Jefferson Ave, if you're familiar with the area, so, pretty easy to find.
I'll go ahead and say not only was the food good... I'll rival it as some of the best Indian/Pakistani food I have had in the area!
I would definitely recommend and will definitely be returning.
If you're looking for some great food; be sure to give this New place a try.
Be sure to follow them on Instagram as well @...
Read moreWife researched and suggested to order carryout for lunch on Sunday from here. First time here and the first time for the both of us having Indian food. Couldn't have had a better experience. Unfortunately did not get the name of the man who assisted me but him knowing what I ordered would not be ready in an adequate time frame ( Proof of the FRESHNESS) he patiently walked me through their menu while giving me his own suggestions. We ordered the Pani-puri and the passion with which he spoke of the chicken biryani led me to also ordering that. We could not have been happier. The biryani as my wife puts it burns so good and was addictively fragrant. Never made it to a table or chair only the kitchen counter. Honestly couldn't walk away as many times as we tried until we were finished and it was more than enough to satisfy the both of us. There is no doubt that we will be returning here multiple times to try as many...
