Viking Burger — Restaurant in Virginia

I hate to give such a poor review of this place as I have always had nothing short of a stellar experience until now and I love supporting small businesses. I always recommend Viking burger to anyone visiting the area.

I am extremely disappointed in my order and the customer service experience I received today. I ordered the muspelheim burger, the Viking fries, and the Viking dog, all of which have this Viking Sauce (basically a chili like sauce) that is usually delicious. However, today I received my order and I could smell an odd smell as soon as I opened the bag, but didn’t think too much about it. I took the first bite of the Viking dog and immediately spit it out as I was shocked by a rancid / spoiled taste. After further inspection, I found that it was the Viking sauce with this terrible smell / taste and all of my items were covered in this sauce making my entire order inedible. Additionally, when I took a bite out of my burger, not only was it coated in this rancid sauce, but the inside of the burger was completely raw. I’m someone who likes my burgers medium sometimes, but this was Not cooked whatsoever, except for the very outermost area where it was browned. This was ordered through Uber eats so I attempted to get a refund, but I was told that unfortunately they can’t give a refund at this time. I called the restaurant and politely told them my situation and told them that the Viking sauce is rancid. I Was told the manager is not in at this time (So you have no one running the store right now?) And that they would call me back. I asked “do you need to take my name or number down or anything?” They told me that they have it on caller ID and that they’ll call me back (This basically told me that they weren’t gonna do anything to help me). To spend 50+ dollars on a meal that was completely Inedible and frankly not safe to consume and to receive no support was absolutely ridiculous. I will not be spending a single penny here ever again. I read many amazing reviews on this place, so when I was in the area I stopped in and brought co-workers. We all tried a version of their Valhalla burger, which are their “stuffed” burgers, made in several different versions. I like spicy, so I ordered their Helheim and prior to committing to it, I asked a bunch of questions about the spice level and what their Spitfire sauce was all about. The guy working the counter was very helpful and friendly, he even went and got me a sample of their Spitfire sauce to try. It had amazing flavor, but it was HOT! I can handle lots of heat and this sauce was hot immediately and then stayed that way about 30 seconds and then got doubly hot! (I’m sweating right now thinking about the experience while I type this!). I asked him to put just a little bit of the sauce in the burger meat when they made it. He did warn us that this series (the Valhalla) of burger can take 15 – 20 minutes to make and he was right, I think we waited about 20 minutes.

Once the food came out it all looked and smelled amazing! I immediately cut into the burger to see what the inside looked like and it was not only packed very nicely to ensure I got good flavor in each bite, but the doneness (temperature) of the meat itself was spot on! The bun was amazing, held together perfectly and tasted great! Nothing I’ve ever had before, I’m assuming from a local or special baker, or made for them. Their onion rings were great too.
