Waffle House — Restaurant in Virginia

Waiter was hostile and extreamly rude. We arrived at 2pm yesterday with my partner. No greeting when we walked in and sat ourselves. After we took turns using the restroom, we still didn't have anyone acknowledge us. There was one guy at the high top bar, a couple leaving and one guy sitting at a table at the other side on the restaurant waiting on food. This place was not busy at all. After waiting and no greeting or server, my partner walked over to the bar area and asked to place his order. After the order was taken at the bar, we were thirsty and walked back to the bar to order a water and coffee. The 17 or 19 year old female waitress with doodles on her face yelled at my partner and said "You need to wait your turn, you need to wait until I come to you!" My partner was immediately embarassed and apologised to her. She didn't care about his apology and told him to sit down. Again, this place is not busy, and when he approached the bar, she seemingly looked unoccupied while she stood there. We were very confused of her behavior as no one noticed how long we had already been there waiting for ANYONE to recognize us. No apology from them which would usually be expected and unasked for. Our food finally arrived. But the same waitress just stood over us while we were waiting for her to sit the food down in front of us (like most restaurants do) she just gave us this terrable eye roll and head shake and expected us to reach up and take our food plates out of her hand above us. This was very awkward and her obvious disgust with us showed. She didn't refill our drinks, we needed items that she didnt bring. We were hesitant to ask for our ticket after we ate and sat there for awhile. We went to the front and said we wanted to pay. The same server said with an attitude, well your gonna have to wait." Then in the same breath, she rang us up. This is a terrable server that needs to be checked. Our food was good. The restaurant was clean, but we didn't tip that same server and will not come back for a long time. Waffle House gets a lot of flack for being ghetto and grimy. After my visit a few days ago I can see exactly why. Now don't get me wrong, the food is surprisingly good. A balance of fat, salt, and grease is what you're going to have to expect when going here. This is like good food at someone's house who occasionally goes 3-4 days without showering. Like you know they're dirty, but it's borderline ok. The waffles honestly stand up for themselves. Just smear with butter and go with that generic syrup and you'll be housing that thing pretty quick. The bacon, egg, and cheese on Texas toast was not bad. Tasted like something I'd cook up with no real recipe in mind and just what ever I found in my fridge that day. Now as for the decor and cleanliness. This is where most would just one-star this place to oblivion, but if you go in knowing what Waffle House is, then you learn to have a different perspective. The laminated menus were sticky, the cutlery was spotty, the floor felt grimy, and my "clean" mug had some kind of grease glob on the side of it. Strange enough, I want phased by any of it. The place was pretty full for a Friday morning and you can see that the atmosphere was that of a restaurant not looking to impress you with glits and glamor. Saw the movie the Fall Guy which was awesome and then my son and I headed here for some much needed after hours breakfast. Food was great, service was better even than the food but the one thing that got to me was this man and his family came in and you could tell he was upset. When he came in the place was almost packed. there were some seats available at the bar of the restaurant so they finally sat down. I overheard him yelling at the staff that he was in no mood for any bullshiite because his wife was in the hospital having open heart surgery. If you have never been with a loved one who has been through that than sing His praises because you have been blessed. After he sat I approached him and said, I had heard what he said and I apologized if he felt mistreated and then I asked if I could pray for her and his family while they were there. He agreed and I said a small prayer and prayed for the doctors and staff working on her and then for healing from the surgery and then for them to find peace in their hearts while they were there. I see people judge people all the time because the way we act but if we actually talk and listen we can work out all differences quickly and easily.
