Absolutely Delicious! I had a Bar Mitzvah for my grandson with all kosher food, and since we could not mix milk and meat, we needed a cake that had no dairy or animal products. So, this was not a party of vegan guests, and they had no idea that all the desserts were vegan, but everyone at the party raved about how good everything was! 5 stars would not even be enough for quality and flavor, but I gave 4 rather than 5 stars because I spent A LOT of money for a two tiered cake and 8 dozen cupcakes and they were given to me to drive in a flimsy open box that had no way of holding the cake in place. (They were unable to deliver, so they were aware that I was driving from Wake Forest to Garner) ) There was nothing sturdy, not even a plate underneath, or solid steady way to keep the cake from sliding all over...I had to keep pulling over to reassemble the cake, smooth out the icing and stick the strawberries back on because there was no way to move even very very slowly without the cake getting damaged. In the end, I would definity shop at Plant Based Cakes again, but I would be weary of purchasing any cakes super large or fragile for...
Read moreIt’s nice to have safe treats, but they aren’t perfect (I’m gluten and dairy free). I’ve baked for years in these constraints and was spoiled by a fantastic little place in Baltimore so I’ve got high standards. Their frostings are great, but the gf stuff can be tough (not light and springy) and the doughnuts are wet and kind of soggy. Flavors are good, but they need to work on the texture of the crumb in both. Changing up the flour blends can help, it takes a lot of trial and error to get it right. Sweet 27 in Baltimore gets it perfect, and they use chickpea flour in their batters and doughs. There’s also tricks like beating longer to incorporate more air and higher baking times at the start to push the rise. When I bake at home I always use a blend of tapioca, corn starch, fine white rice flour, brown rice flour, potato starch, oat flour and xanthan gum (or psyllium husk). I still like going to Plant Cakes and love their mission, it’s just not quite there for me as someone living gluten free for decades and now dairy free as well. It’s great to have somewhere close to where I live that I can grab...
Read moreSo incredibly disappointed. We drove an hour round trip to to get some treats for our allergy kiddos. We checked social media on the way and made sure to get there before noon. They are open until 3 o’clock. We pulled up and there was a big sign on the door that said “sold out “. Good for them that they are busy, but if they’re going to be open until 3 o’clock, they should make enough to be open until 3 o’clock. At a minimum they should update their social media to let people know they don’t have anything left. unfortunately after being burned like that and now listening to my toddler cry the whole way home, I will not be back.
Updated in response to owner reply:
I appreciate that and understand how busy it can get. I would not have written a review had this been offered to me when I was there. Instead, it appeared the people in front of me were offered something if they wanted to wait and I was basically just told...
