White Street Brewing Co. is located in the heart of downtown Wake Forest. It opened in 2011, which gosh, seems almost like yesterday. I was there for opening day...with my first kid in tow in a baby bjorn carrier...you guys remember those?! Wake Forest's first brewery, I was super excited! It brought some much needed life and exuberance back into downtown and I feel like it started a mini-revitalization of Wake Forest.
They always have a line up of staples, which they call their Main Street series...a kolsch, a couple IPAs, a Beglian Triple, and a Scottish amber. And more often then not, they have seasonal classics or one-offs on the tap menu. The brewery is built right into the tap room, which is cool to sit there and have a beer and look over your shoulder right where some if it is brewed. The reason I say some of it, is because they have a larger production facility close by that handles brewing their regular line-up, which you can see in many restaurants and most grocery stores. There is no food on site, but they routinely have food trucks outside and there are several restaurants you can grab food from downtown and bring right inside...or bring a picnic from home.
They have darts, a shuffleboard and sports are usually playing on the TVs. White Street also headlines and supports several local events and clubs...including the ever popular Friday Night on White concert series and hosts the White Street Brewer's Guild (a homebrew club I helped found). If you are ever in downtown Wake Forest, stop by, grab a beer (or a wine or craft soda), take in the rustic history of the building and brewery setup and say hi to a stranger...they just might become...
Read moreWife and I both love White Street! The atmosphere is great for watching a big game or hanging out with friends. We enjoy having a beer and throwing darts and the nearby restaurants will deliver if you want food. The beer can be sometimes a little boring (I get it guys, you make money on the run-of-the-mill stuff, not everyone is supporting their brewery with the Sour Pineapple Honey Mustard Imperial Stout Aged on Croutons). I'm not going to fault them for playing it safe sometimes, but I hope they strike it rich in the beer business... like so rich that they can wipe down the bright tank with $100 bills... that way they can get adventurous and do some really cool stuff. You know... to make people forget about all the Budweiser-owned breweries in Asheville (but it's brewed with real beard oil guys!!)
Seriously... White Street is my jam. I love their DIPAs and would love to see a nice NEIPA or maybe a chocolate stout with chili peppers from time to...
Read moreWhite Street Brewing is a great addition to downtown Wake Forest, a real community gathering spot and hey, they brew and serve great beer on site! The brewery and taproom/bar are housed in a renovated 1930's car dealership showroom. The interior includes industrial architectural elements and a lot of dark wood (as a tap room should). You can sit at a table with friends, watch a game on the big screen, or listen to live music performances. It's a fun, inviting place but let's not forget the beer. I'm a big fan of their Scottish Ale. If you like variety then you've got to order a flight. If you're hungry, many local restaurants will deliver (or you can walk down White Street and get food to bring in) and on occasion a food truck can be found on a...
