The submarine sandwiches are better at Boardwalk-Standale than those at any of the other sub shops that I've patronized in the Grand Rapids area, but not what I would categorize as "great." In my experience, it's been the outstanding service which set this establishment apart from all of the other sandwich shops that I've tried in town. Just now, when I was disposing of the white paper wrapper from today's Boardwalk-Standale sub, I noticed something a bit unusual. Refer to the included photograph. Please tip generously whenever possible and warranted. Thank you.
UPDATE/FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, 2021: I ordered my sub on-line, only to be informed, when I arrived at the Boardwalk-Standale location this evening, that my usual "Curbside Pick-Up" is no longer offered as an option. For reasons which I can't detail within this updated review, Boardwalk's cessation of this particular alternative means that I'll be unable to continue patronizing this establishment. While I realize that business staffing has been a chronic problem since the outbreak of COVID-19, it's a shame that I will now need to search elsewhere, yet again, for a decent submarine sandwich restaurant which includes either Curbside or, even better,...
Read moreI tried a Boardwalk Subs sub and was quickly disappointed. It was a version of an Italian style sandwich. What stood out, the sandwich was excessively salty and I'm not sure why. The meat maybe ? I ordered lettuce and tomato to be added and I could barely tell it was there. Lastly I tried their "go rogue" style bun because it sounded good. It ended up being more like a flatbread with no benefit to taste or texture. Quite simply you get a panini rather than a traditional sub. It costs extra. The extra long sub was about $16 plus tip.
Boardwalk has an extensive menu so I'll likely give them another try but won't "go rogue" with the thin panini style specialty bread/ bun option. Hopefully the next sub won't be so salty. Let me add, the service was fast and friendly but wish the staff wore masks at least while...
Read moreWas driving thru Standale a few days ago and I decided to give this place a try. I don't know when they were voted best Sub in Grand Rapids, but it couldn't have been recently unless it was another location. You think as you watch them slice your meat fresh that you're in the right place. Then you notice you can see thru the meat. Which brings me back to the days of Blimpie. The Sub was just okay not the best I've had not the worst (Subway lol). Also, it would be nice to get the option for Pickle slices vs. shredded that way if it's not a good pickle can pick them off. All in all, for this kind of money I think there should be more meat as once you add veggies and dressing the meat is lost. I might try it again sometime in the future maybe a half just to see if going rogue is as good...
