Pros: I liked the taste of the food.
Cons: Quality/Safety of the food to be checked, Need better customer service.Stale food items.
We usually like the buffet here and visited on a weekday few months ago. We had ordered Parotta, Chicken Curry and ordered Idly for my 5 year old. After my son finished eating, I had the last piece and realized the sambhar was totally spoilt. Felt very bad and informed them but cooled down once the lady who served us apologized. We decided that food may not be fresh on weekdays and continued to visit on Weekends when we crave south Indian food and the food tastes good. We visited the place with my brother’s family last weekend. It was my birthday treat. 2A. The food tasted good. I liked them. 2B. As soon as I finished my food, I went and paid the bill. The person who prepared the receipt, clearly asked the number of guests, their age and cleared that it is going to be 6 adults and 1 kid. After I paid the bill, she asked if I need the receipt and I said yes. Looks like she had “accidentally” entered 7 adults instead of 6 adults and a kid. Difference was somewhere around $10. I made sure that I should ask for receipt in any place going forward, at least to check and confirm. Even after I mentioned 2 sodas, she offered to bill 1 soda. Not sure if it was - offer $2 and take $10. I can’t complain on this as it could be genuine “accident” but we should certainly get the receipt. 2C. My wife and sister in law were still having food. The same person who provided receipt came and asked us to vacate saying people are waiting, we told her that 2 of them were still having food.Even then she prompted us to vacate. The person who came to clean it up said the same thing. We were totally there for 30 minutes. It was more like Monday morning breakfast rush than the relaxed Weekend lunch. I asked my wife to bring the dessert and have it in the car. We hate people sitting casually and chatting when people are waiting for food and so, we wouldn’t certainly do that. We understand weekends are crowded, but 2 members were still having food. I felt it was rude to nudge people to finish fast and vacate.Still I thought okay as long as food is tasty BUT 2C. When I had “ada pradhama”, I felt a different taste( Sour) and asked my brother to check. He said that it was burnt. I had a full cup. Later, when my wife went to pick dessert (which she had in car), she told me that Ada pradama “Milk’s curdled” and has a spoilt taste. This is the second time..so not okay about food quality . I never bothered to read the negative reviews as I usually find their food tasty. Appam and parotta are good but looks like We are not the first ones who had to have stale and...
Read moreI am writing this review simply for the service. The food was excellent and I've eaten there before pre-pandemic and never had a problem with the service. During the pandemic, however, is a different story. I ordered my food (2 entrees and an appetizer) at 4:55pm. Email said it would be ready by 5:15. I figured 20 minutes seemed reasonable. But when I got there at 5:16, no one was there to talk to. I had to just sit there and wait for someone to arrive at the pick up window to see what was happening. Finally, after a couple minutes, someone was visible behind the counter on the phone. When he hung up, he asked for my name and he told me it was still cooking and it would be 10 more minutes. I figured 30 minutes was a little long but I would deal. Went back to the window at 5:28 after another couple picked up their food. But in the 30 seconds it took me to walk up to the window, no one was there again. After 5 minutes of trying to be patient I started shouting excuse me, but no one answered. I then proceeded to call them on the phone and I told them I'm here to pick up my food. Response from the worker: " yeah, you're the guy I told wait. It's ready now," and then he hung up. No, I'll be right there. No, let me just bag it up...just click. I checked the time again, it was 5:38 by the way. Well, after he hung up, he returned to the window, placed my bag on the pick up table, and walked away. Not a thank you, not a sorry for the long wait, just a drop and go. So I bent over and said 'thank you so much for the warm hospitality', to which he replied, "Sure". By the way, the food was placed on the pick up table at 5:42. I hope this isn't true for everybody else getting take out from there, but 47 minutes from order to receipt of food is ridiculous especially when the order is placed before 5. Could they possibly be THAT busy at 5 pm. And to think I purposely ordered from there because I felt bad that they might be struggling because of the pandemic. Beware to all that your service might...
Read moreAfter had many buffets in many places around all over U.S. namely California (LA, San Francisco, San Jose), Texas (Amarillo, Dallas and Houston), New York (Queens, Jackson height), Connecticut (Milford, Hartford etc.), Oak Tree Road multiple great giants in NJ, not a fan of buffet and large list of 65+ items in menus with hardly very few picky items of good taste in those buffets.
But with recommendations with 2 of my trusted family friends, went it for a Saturday noon Buffet yesterday (17-Mar-2018) with two good size family of 8 including 5 kids :-) and I should admit having the best Authentic style Indian (Kerala special) cuisine in U.S. First gone off with little portions in small home size pots/ serving for a buffet but realized at the end not being able to try even half of the menu when done. Amazed to see the authentic taste and really home made touch in each and every dish we had. Best South Indian items (Poori with potato masala, Appam with excellent Egg curry, excellent kerala style parathas, top class okra fry, spicy butter milk, yummy deserts and what not) and surprising to see the very best non-beg dishes (Special chicken dum biriyani, Goat curry, chicken 65, chicken cuttlet, chicken hariyali, duck masala, fish fry, authentic neththily fish which I last had many years back in Chennai at home and much more) all for about $15 per adult do not remember as found worth giving much more for such homemade touch food. Sad that could only have so much portion of tummy as missed much more Kerala style veg & non-veg options like Avial, mixed rice, pickles, deserts etc. to name a few.
Desperate to go for a second round soon. Much excited to try the Alacat menu next time after seeing the photos coming back home in their website with such yummy taste of memories had to perish out of our mouths.
I wish all the best for the restaurant owner and their family for long...
