Long time customer here. 30+ years. But that's all over now.
Up until today (4/16/16), I would have given 5 stars but had several negative experiences all related from 1 order.
First of all, the menu listed here is NOT for Sal's Pizza in Washington Twp. The menu needs to be removed but I am unable to delete it with Google's "request edit" option.
Then again, I'm not the proprietor of Sal's Pizza. Nor am I an employee. This is just 1 indicator of how little they care about their customers. Even 3 generations of loyal patronage means zilch to these folks. Why are they so mysterious about their menu and their pricing? Even inside the pizzeria there aren't any prices posted. Absolutely no signage. It's very strange for this type of joint.
And they don't even have menus out next to the register like all other pizzerias. You have to ask for one. Only to be told that although this is their most recent menu, some of the prices have changed. Hmmm.......really? I was told this back in November '15 AND February '16. Why would pizzeria prices fluctuate so much in such a short span of time?
I phoned Sal's to place the same order for pick-up that my family has made for decades: A large cheese and a large white w/ spinach and fresh tomato.
The girl asked if I wanted fresh garlic and I asked, "Doesn't it always have garlic?" She replied, "Yes. White pizza always has fresh garlic but most people around here don't like it so we don't put it on ours. But if you want fresh garlic, we can put it on, as a topping."
Really? People in this region don't care for garlic? That's a new one.
Basically, what it comes down to is Sal's wants to charge their customers an extra $2.00 for an ingredient which should already be included since it is always used in a White Pizza recipe.
But the employees at Sal's Pizza really wanted to show me what an unreasonable customer I was being for having the audacity to expect a white pizza to have fresh garlic (as it always did in the past without being an additional "topping" charge). So the young lady put some macho dude with incredible "power" on the phone to set me straight and take my little insignificant order.
And boy did he show me the error of my ways! Saying something like, "Yeah. Hello. So you want one large plain. And you want one large white without garlic, because we never put garlic on, unless you ask for it as a topping - with fresh tomatoes and spinach?" Wow dude your authority is awesome!
At this point I could've cared less about their arrogant cult-like phrasing. I would've simply cancelled the order but my father and rest of my family have been loyal Sal's patrons (grandparents who also loved Sal's have passed on) and were looking forward to their pizza. I figured Sal's could redeem their poor customer service by offering excellent product but that would've been the actions of a normal business that actually cared about their customers.
That was not to be.
Both pies were bland and not their usual high quality deliciousness. Even the crust seemed different. Seasonless tomatoes and spinach. This was not the excellent delicious Sal's pizza of the recent past nor from long ago.
Although I did not share my bad experience with my family, they all noticed the subpar quality and taste. My brother and I will never order from them again. My father and step-mother will probably give Sal's one more try but I don't see why when there are so many other excellent pizzerias in the area.
Bye bye Sal. Hello Capri in...
Read moreIn my quest to find good pizza in Washington Township NJ I decided to try Sal's Pizza. Here's my opinion. The sauce was very good with a slight pleasant sweetness that I found very good. The cheese is high quality and not too oily. Finally, the crust. My major complaint with pizza in this area is the crust. None of the pizza shops around here have a clue with crust. It's always super floppy and you take a bite you can see that the inside is not cooked. Always. The bottom appears to be crispy but it's not. It's not just Sal's it's everywhere in the Township. I am accustomed to places like Frank Pepe's, Trenton style pizza and locals like King of Pizza. Crispy crust, cooked through with almost no flop when you first start eating one. I haven't given up and I'll keep trying but I just don't get it. If I wanted soft doughy crust I'd like Dominos but I don't. Sal's scores points for flavor and now if they could only figure...
Read moreSAL'S PIZZA HAS THE BEST PIZZA IN SOUTH JERSEY, HANDS DOWN. If you have never been and you like good pizza you better go to SALS and taste what a real slice of pizza tastes like. ??Cheesesteaks are not good?? as another reviewer said. NO WAY I LOVE CHEESTEAKS AND THEIRS ARE ALWAYS AWESOME, ALWAYS PIPING HOT AND THE BEST FRESH ROLLS. SAL'S just has your typical pizzeria menu, but everything is always fresh and tastes great. They make their own fresh sauce everyday and I think that's why their pizza taste so great!!!! Nothing Bad to say about SAL'S. I have probably placed close to 1,000 orders with them and I have never received anything that I would consider sub par. Sals has high standards for the quality of food they put out. The only thing that goes array once in a while is the H.S. Girls that take the orders sometimes get...
