I've accepted that pizza has become insanely expensive these days, but typically the quality is better than it used to be. I'll admit the pizza and wings were pretty good, but they were very stingy on the ingredients. I did a 14" pepperoni pizza, for $20($3.25 for the pep) and they put the pep under the cheese, and after eating the pizza I know why. They literally had 1 pepperoni on each slice, at the border of the crust, as if it was some sort of design. It was a thin crust pizza and they certainly put on the leanest amount of cheese ever, as if it was a Marguerite pizza or something. Plus I got $12 wings(it doesn't say how many are in the order, but it came with only 6, which is ridiculous) and I asked for Buffalo but they had no sauce on them. $47 for a 14" pizza, 6 wings and a very small slice of cake($8). Either have small portions and charge less or charge a lot and have reasonable portions. $3.25(why the extra .25) or 41 cents a pep, for a pizza topping is just crazy. Trying to hide the lack of added toppings is just suspicious as you will find out when you eat it. I was really hoping to find a new pizza spot, that wasn't one of the DC local chains(they are pretty good but I was hoping this was a diamond) but the search continues. I was so upset when Pete's New Haven't Pizza left Columbia Heights as you got your money's worth, for the higher...
Read moreA Mixed Bag: Bacio Restaurant offers a charming atmosphere, particularly upstairs, where the space is quaint and intimate. Despite the reservation being made ahead of time for the restaurant, we had no trouble securing a table. However, our outdoor dining experience was quickly soured by a persistent fly problem that forced us to move indoors. Even upstairs, we encountered a few flies and an unusual odor, which slightly detracted from the ambiance. While the space is lovely, it feels a bit overcrowded with tables, potentially limiting privacy and intimacy when the restaurant is full. Fortunately, as we were the only diners upstairs, we enjoyed a peaceful and private conversation. The food was a mixed bag. Our appetizer, a fried cheese dish, was decent, but the accompanying marinara sauce lacked flavor. The pizza was solid but not particularly memorable. The timing of the meal was off, as our appetizer and pizza arrived at the same time. The service was generally okay, but we felt it could have been more attentive and proactive. More suggestions for menu items or wine pairings would have been appreciated. Overall, Bacio has potential, but the fly issue, odd odor, and uneven service detract from the experience. The outdoor space is charming, but the fly problem is a significant drawback. If these issues can be addressed, Bacio could be a delightful...
Read moreHands-down, the very best pizza I have eaten. There is a degree of perfection here in the quality of the crust and how it elevates the perfect amount of toppings. I have eaten a LOT of gourmet pizza. Without doubt, this crust is the zenith, the Apex, the very height of what pizza crust should be. The salads were also excellent. The service was great, happy and attentive. However, she could have known the craft beer list a bit better. She advertised as "local" some beers made in Michigan. But, perhaps not a beer-drinker herself, she was substituting "craft" for "local". At any rate, this is no biggie. However, they have two seating areas, one is upstairs, inside, and tiny. The other is a patio that can be enclosed with vinyl walls and heated. We arrived too late for the upper room and we're relegated to the patio...where the walls were not zipped together and the cold wind blew right through. The heater was no match. Once the large table that apparently liked it that way left, walls were zipped and comfort level went up. So go here in warmer weather for a truly five-star pizza experience....
