If the waiter said it once, he said it five times: "We make everything here from scratch." Well, just because you make it there doesn't make it delicious. We had the fried pickles as an app. They we're cornmeal coated and we knew that. We all decided we preferred a tempura-style batter, but they were well-prepared and as advertised. But the dipping sauce was a honey-mustard style sauce. Ew. The Caesar Salad was good and my 15yo son LOVED the falafel burger. The rest of us had burgers. I had the one with the pickled beets. It was fine, a bit undercooked from what I ordered but good. But the fries were greasy and lukewarm. Let's stop here to talk about the ketchup. The first thing we thought was that it was off. Turns out it was homemade. So the vinegar to sugar ratio was quite different from what you would expect from Heinz or Hunts. I'm also sure that it is well-prepared. Having tried my own hand with ketchup, I know how hard it is to make! It probably would have been fine if the waiter had given us a heads-up. The combo of the barely-warm fries and unique ketchup just sucked, mainly because we just expected something else. And when I asked the waiter about it, I was told that "we make everything here in-house" concluded by an unspoken phrase - ", you classless cretan." I'm a foodie. And I love when a pub-style restaurant takes food seriously enough to do it well. That's why we went there in the first place. But, dang, that ketchup! That one condiment became a symbol of a chef and wait-staff that should communicate and listen to its patrons with more care. It's a pub. New patrons come in with a set of expectations about pub food. If you want to elevate that (a worthy goal) then communicate...
Read moreLong time boundary stone customer, and we were really excited for brunch. We were seated quite quickly, but unfortunately that’s about the only good thing I have to say. I understand that the brunch offering here is very popular, and I will concede that it was very busy, however nothing excuses how rude the staff was. It took about a hour for me to get a hot coffee, and the cold brews that were ordered by others at my table were full of coffee grounds. The main marketing gimmick of the brunch (bottomless mimosas) were not, in fact, bottomless. We saw pitchers about every hour, and when we asked if we could get a pitcher we were told “the thing with free things if you have to be chill about it.” While I absolutely understand it was very busy, that’s actually not how brunch promotions work, and if it is, you shouldn’t be running one. That was just one of the main servers rude remarks to my table. Most servers were very dismissive (except for the girl in the tie dye, love her) and the one running the brunch was downright rude. He jokingly refused service to one of my guy friends and blatantly ignored him when drink refills came around. In addition, mine and my friends food actually never came. We did have our checks cancelled but that’s the bare minimum. I can excuse slow or bad service, especially if it’s very busy. Things can get behind and I totally get that. But to have slow service, and then be downright rude to customers repeatedly when they ask you for something is inexcusable. Won’t be coming back for...
Read moreWe came yesterday, August 18th for our 2pm reservation. We stood at what I can only assume was the host stand for about 5 minutes waiting for someone to make eye contact so we could figure out how we were supposed to check in for our reservation. There were no signs or indicators of what to do. We finally asked the bartender if we were supposed to seat ourselves, he asked if I had a reservation then said we’d be seated. He didn’t ask a name for the reservation. What’s the point of having reservations available? We were then seated by someone that had walked by us twice before and very clearly was avoiding eye contact both times. The table had recently been wiped but not reset so when we got our food we had to ask for utensils. The food was subpar at best. I understand we were coming in toward the end of brunch but it looked like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for hours. The cinnamon roll was dry and tough, potatoes were old. I also understand with the QR code ordering system you’re not going to get a server checking on you periodically but it was a little annoying that we couldn’t even get someone to make eye contact long enough for us to ask a question. The reviews brought us in but I’m...
