Read moreI’d read so many glowing reviews about Bandit Taco’s breakfast burrito that I had to try it. Unfortunately, it was a major disappointment from start to finish.
First off, the breakfast burrito isn’t listed anywhere in the store. When I asked the staff, they just nodded—no explanation, no details. I had to pull up their online menu on my phone to figure it out myself.
When ordering, I asked to try both sauces on the side and even offered to pay extra, but was told I could only pick one. I went with the chipotle sauce, which turned out to be more like a slightly flavored mayo than anything close to salsa. I’m used to a proper salsa with burritos (breakfast or otherwise), so this was confusing and disappointing. Granted, they did say “sauce” and not “salsa,” but mayo wasn’t what I was expecting.
The burrito itself was just… sad. The cheese was freezing cold, which threw off the entire flavor and texture. The potatoes were lukewarm, the eggs were the only component with any real heat (and even that was just “okay”), and none of it was seasoned—not even basic salt and pepper. I get that maybe the sauce is supposed to carry the flavor, but a little seasoning would have gone a long way.
I only managed a few bites before giving up. Having lived in SoCal for a while, I know a good breakfast burrito, and this was honestly one of the worst I’ve had. East Coast breakfast burritos strike again.
I briefly considered coming back to try their lunch or dinner options, but the lack of helpfulness from the staff sealed the...
Read moreBandit Taco is the latest attempt to offer Washington, D.C. decent Mexican food...Well, fusion Mexican food at least. They are a small taco shop in between Dupont Circle and Adams Morgan that serves tacos inspired by Asian flare (hence the Korean beef tacos).
I went here on a Monday right at 11:30AM when they open for lunch. I was the first person there and the only person to dine there between 11:30-12:30PM. I ordered two Korean beef tacos and Mexican street corn. The tacos come on two smallish corn tortillas with a generous portion of whatever filling you order. The street corn is corn on the cob with white sauce that I'm pretty sure is straight up mayo (just how I like it). The food is good, but still not compared to any Mexican food experience south of the Mississippi (why can't DC master this?!).
The staff are friendly and even brought their three sauces to my table. They have guacamole sauce (which is a lighter version of guac), a medium salsa, and a hot salsa. The tacos are flavorful and good, but not out of this world. My Mexican street corn was good. One of the best in DC, but nothing like found in Texas or Mexico itself.
If you need a taco fix, it's worth visiting to taste...
