The BEST Chinese food we've had since moving to the PNW almost 2 decades ago. Anytime someone tells me to try their favorite Chinese restaurant I am ultimately always disappointed. It's usually good that's over breaded, or soggy, or sat around all day. I grew up in a place filled with all sorts of wonderful Asian cuisines made with fresh, quay ingredients, and prepared to order. What I grew up eating was what you would be served in someone's family home. It's hot, it's fresh and it's made with pride and love. So when I tried to find a quality Chinese restaurant up here it was nothing but disappointment over and over. Whether it was in Portland, Seattle or Vancouver. My whole life, Chinese was one of my favorite cuisines, until I moved to the PNW. It was so gross that I just didn't try anymore... UNTIL I tried Golden City!! It's AMAZING! You can tell they truly care about the quality of food they serve! None of those ridiculously disgusting, thickly breaded, soggy egg rolls or questionable meats that have clearly sat around for hours. This family owned and run restaurant is WONDERFUL and the people that run it are kind and caring. It's one of those hole-in-the-wall restaurants that once you try it you think : "wow, I found a gem!" The restaurant is small but cozy. The food is always fresh, never heavily breaded, the meats are good cuts and not the scraps. Everything about Golden City is like what I knew growing up. It's like you are a guest in someone's home and they want you to feel warm and welcomed. Enjoy your meal and leave with a full belly and a happy heart. Golden City is a must try! You will not be sorry! Our favorites are the honey chicken, orange chicken, kung-pao chicken, Mongolian beef and sesame beef. OH and their crab puffs...
Read moreI've been eating at this spot since it was Golden Dragon in the early 90s, obviously it's been thru different incarnations of owners, I even bussed tables in high school when Dominic owned it. The food has always been delicious. As a vegetarian finding good fried rice is a bonus. This has always been my favorite place for it, they use FRESH veggies in the rice with mushrooms and whole pea pods. I don't even have to add soy sauce because they season perfectly. Not overly salty either. We also love the Kung Pao tofu. My husband isn't vegetarian, but he orders the tofu also. The veggie fried rolls are excellent, always crispy, never soggy. When we could dine in the tea was hot and delicious, and they serve a sliced navel orange and fortune cookies. I can't speak for any other menu items, but I can't imagine they wouldn't be excellent quality. The service has been great, fast, and friendly. The only bad thing is that I tend to forget they are closed on Mondays and I seem to always crave it then! Top spot in Hazel Dell. Picture doesn't do justice, but it's KUNG PAO TOFU medium spicy, and VEG FRIED RICE, but we'd already eaten through it before I remembered to...
Read moreso so so so good!! i would consider it one of the best chinese restaurants in the Vancouver area! i ordered three things, crab puffs, beef with broccoli, and hot and sour soup, all of which came out to about $27 after tip! i ordered on the phone for pickup and it was super easy to place the order
the crab puffs are the perfect texture and taste along with the sweet and sour sauce that had a small dollop of mustard in it which was interesting but good!
the beef with broccoli also came with a side of white rice which is included with the dish. the beef was nice and tender and the broccoli still had crunch even after sitting in steam for a little. they also included carrots which added a pop of color and more veggies!
the hot and sour soup was good but not the best. in my opinion it tasted like there was a little too much vinegar in it and became super sour and a bit gelatinous??? but it was still super yummy and a good price for quite a large serving!!
overall i really like this place, the service was amazing and the girl i spoke to on the phone was patient and super...
