WARNING - Do NOT get the fraudulent claim they make at Ivy and Coney of having Italian beef.
My 16-year old Son just went to Ivy & Coney to get four Italian beefs double dipped with cheese and no peppers with extra beef. He came back home with the attached receipt (see photo) with supposedly four cheesesteaks with no peppers. I know how to order Italian beef after living in Chicago for 50 years. We had just heard of this establishment this weekend so were overjoyed to get Italian Beef in DC. Saying we were disappointed would be an understatement.
My first clue was the receipt that said cheesesteak and not Italian beef. My second was when I looked at the “food” it in no way looked or tasted like Italian beef. I called the manager Kya Ma, who is also listed on the attached photo receipt. Not only were these to go sandwiches $11 per sandwich they were practically unedible inclining the charred something that also included onions.
Kya told me on the phone that an Italian beef with cheese is actually a cheesesteak. I’m guessing she’s never been to Philly. I asked her for some type of compensation and she repeatedly said she didn’t know what the problem was.
Do yourself a huge favor and if you want Italian beef, do NOT go to Ivy and Coney as they don’t serve Italian Beef, despite what the menu and Ms. Ma maintain. I ended up throwing in the garbage all four sandwiches. I would have given them to our dog, but I didn’t want...
Read moreIncredibly rude staff. Do not book a reservation because you may be charged to cancel and there is a strong possibility the staff will treat like trash. This is our experience. Walked into a quiet seemingly slow restaurant. We were considerably early for our reservation but just wanted to grab a drink somewhere. Explained all this to a man who approached us. He listened and immediately sat back down and played on his phone. Did not communicate with any other staff or us about the next steps. There was a sign to wait so we waited. Long enough for us to the bathroom while one person waited outside. No one came to help, dude is still in his phone. Everything seems slow, no chaos, no noise so we figure let’s take a peak and see if someone is down this hallway. As soon as we stepped past the sign phone dude actually yells” hey guys where are you going?!” Without waiting for our response he starts reprimanding us about making it 5ft down the hallway. I managed to defend us saying we have been waiting for someone and he hasn’t helped us but he just continued to yell at is that “it don’t work like that”. (Actually raising his voice at us, yes) Very confused how on how this is acceptable behavior in hospitality. Hopefully the staff reads this, it was a Sunday afternoon around 5:30, whom ever you pay to sit on their phone at this time was the man that scared off your guests and caused this review...
Read moreThe blonde d-bag bartender with a SUPER cooool Bad Saints hat was a pompous a-hole. Never came to the bar to greet us while too busy whispering and joking with his buddies. Then whined like a 8 year old when the 15 people that walked in with us got impatient, “I won’t serve you guys if you’re taking bad about me”. The bar was empty otherwise. Thought he was about to cry for real at one point. He was so offended we came from “Dacha”, even stating loudly. In our group was one of the co-owners of Dacha who recommend we go to Ivy and Coney. He was horrified by the guy. After telling us we had to leave, all 15 of us got up and the bouncer apologized saying, “ I don’t know what’s up with this guy (bartender), he does this all the time. I’m sorry.” Unless this bar fires d-bag Bad Saints bartender and gets a pretentious attitude adjustment I would avoid at all cost. 1 Star is not low enough. Worthless bar that won’t last in DC....
