Absolutely delightful! Beau Thai is definitely worthy of its reputation for having the best Thai food in DC -- I've been here a couple of times in the last year, and I've been thoroughly impressed by every dish that I've gotten, as well as by their consistency and quality. I'm absolutely in LOVE with their red curry, including their fall seasonal pumpkin red curry! It definitely packs a bit of a punch, but the spice is exactly what I need to warm my soul as the weather starts cooling down. It's flavorful, rich, and all-around the perfect remedy for any sickness or a tough day. I know this is a bit of a random thing to love, but I'm super happy with their brown rice -- it's perfectly cooked, with just the right level of moisture to be soft, but not mushy and dry, but not grainy. It tastes a bit earthy, likely because of the black rice / rice berry mixed in, and it fits perfectly with a curry or one of the saucier stir-fries.
Each of their stir fries are also deliciously flavorful. I've had all of them except for the chicken cashew and Scott's Favorite, and they're all amazing -- the pad pik king has an amazing chili sauce that is packed with umami and a light hint of spice. If you want a bit more heat, I would definitely go for the ka pao, which is packed with chilis, as well as super aromatic Thai basil and garlic. If you want something a bit lighter, the pad king is fantastic and filled with flavor from the ginger, mushrooms, and onions (such a power trio), or you can go with the sauteed vegetables with tofu and garlic. You can pick your protein for each of the stir fries (aside from the chicken cashew and Scott's favorite). I usually opt for adding tofu and then get a side of steamed veggies if I want to up my vegetable intake.
All in all, you really can't go wrong with a single item here! Every dish is delicious, and the service is friendly and quick. If you're looking for an amazing, authentic, and no-frills Thai restaurant in DC, definitely head over...
Read moreFood is reasonably priced and the quality is certainly unquestionable. So much so that I would patronize this establishment multiple times a week. However on 4/24/18 around 1pm while on my lunch break I visited Beau Thai to pick up my take out order. Upon arrival I walked to the register as I always do to pay. I payed for my meal and decided to sit at the bar to eat and finish my lunch break. Once at the bar the slightest request for things such as soy sauce were in my opinion painful to the female server. Almost as if I was bothering her by sitting at the bar and asking for what I needed. I asked for a ginger ale and it took literally 5 minutes to be told something is wrong with the machine. I requested coke, she replied “you know it’s three dollars” to my reply “yeah I know I come here often”. Fast forward I finish my meal and gather my trash and walked to the host desk and asked if there’s a trash can go dispose of my items. Her response was “did you pay for your soda?” What kind of question is that to be asked... really a soda? Mind you the 3 dollars and thirty cents were on the bar inside of the sleeve. I was shocked to be asked about a soda that I clearly paid for and had the server payed attention she would’ve known. My response was “did you really ask me did I pay for a soda?” “Yeah it’s on the bar, don’t ask a customer if they paid for a three dollar soda”. Completely unprofessional and this is the first time I’ve ever had an encounter similar to this at Beau Thai. I advised the manager Bob who in essence brushed it off and was nonchalant. Asking “well do you want a three dollar gift certificate?” Ummm no how about an apology to a customer who frequents your establishment. They’ve lost a customer. Mind you I was in my city government uniform. So the issue of covering a three dollar tab is pretty nonexistent and silly also weighing in the fact that I paid for my take out order prior to and just decided to sit at the bar to eat it....
Read moreI rarely write a review but I feel compelled to…I went around touring town today looking for good Thai food to feed my family because they were craving it. After few failed attempts and kids growing impatient, we settled on Beau Thai. I ordered two servings of seafood fried rice for $16 dollars each for a grand total of $35, tax included. This was à to go order, since we live down the street and by then my newborn was really restless. My mistake was not to open the stapled brown bag in the restaurant because to my big surprise, they had spilt one serving into two. I received boxes that looked like it was done for a kid menu. I thought to myself, this might have been a mistake so I called hoping for a satisfying solution such as come get an extra box on the house since I had just spent $35 of my hard earned money! No no no this was wishful thinking because this lady manager on the above picture, (btw holding what is considered a full size plate…what I expected to receive) not only belittle me, told me that I was stuck with the food as is, but what really did it for me is the obnoxious daring to write a review, when I threatened to. So here we are…hoping that no one else suffers a spoiled lunch experience as my family just endured! It is a shame that behind her nice smile lies someone who is all about her and not her customer satisfaction. So here we are…hoping that no one else suffers a spoiled lunch like our family just did!
