Shaw Dog Park is a fenced city park run by volunteers. It has become a collective back yard in an area where backyards are small or nonexistent. Some patrons drive from other neighborhoods to give Fido a chance to run and socialize. People are welcoming and love chatting about their dogs. The dogs tend to be well behaved and very friendly. Some of them even go around the park greeting each human or inviting them to join in a game of fetch. No kidding! The Park has a small fenced area for pups under 25 pounds that may not be ready to hang out with their larger friends just yet; and gets busy around noon and after 4 pm. It’s mostly frequented by adults of working age, but all are welcome. You can meet very interesting people there, sit on a bench under a tree and watch the parade of breeds (so many!) or dress your dog up (and yourself) for their annual Halloween Dog Custom Party and competition. A couple of issues that the volunteers are working with DC to fix: The water faucet leaks and a puddle forms at the bottom of the park when it rains or snows— dogs love it, humans not so much. It’s a nice place for both dogs and people alike to spend a couple of...
Read moreWe have two small dogs and stayed in the small dog section. The humans were all very nice. Most of the dogs in the small section stayed with the owners and didn't play too much. We were also warned not to take them to the big dog area bc of a situation that happened to a puppy. He was side swiped from a pack of large dogs running, and this innocent accident broke the small pups neck, and he didn't survive. Just be safe and keep the small pups in the small dog area. Especially if they like to run with the big boys. Also, it is not recommended to have on nice shoes because the ground up powder from the gravel gets all over the place and can create...
Read moreThis dog park has major pros, it’s spacious, there’s alway a lot of dogs there in the evenings, the dogs are friendly and so are the owners. I rated this park 2 stars because of the gravel. It’s a mostly dust. This has been a major problem. If you have a Pitt or a Pitt mix I do not suggest the park. Pitts have very sensitive skin and the dusty gravel can irritate your dogs skin. This is really the only park in my neighborhood so I thought I had found a solution to that problem by washing my dog weekly. Until I found a ringworm on his leg. That’s when I’d had enough. I rather walk him until my legs fall off that have him in a...
