I used to love Life Alive in Boston so I was very excited to try it out in DC. I appreciate the healthier food options and Iām still planning on coming back to try more dishes. The most disappointing was that we ordered the Udon and Ramen dishes, specifically asking for āextra hotā temperatures. When then arrived, the soil and sea ramen was so cold that it tasted like someone forgot to heat up the noodles or the broth midway. When I brought this up to the food runner, he said the chef told him to relay itāll be extra 20 minutes just to get it hotter. He came back with the same bowl we handed over maybe 10 min later, and said that was the hottest they could make it. It was lukewarm at best, and had they communicated it wasnāt possible to make the dish hot, I wouldnāt have ordered it.
The mushroom shawarma warm bowl was the best of the three dishes. I added the tofu for added protein, and it paired well.

Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was a big fan of Life Alive in Cambridge and am thrilled to see it come to DC. In short, I like the restaurant and recommend it. The food is good, the servers are nice, and the ambience is lovely. It's a good spot both for getting a meal as well as grabbing a coffee and hanging out.
Our favorite dish was the Golden Buddha bowl, particularly with the feta spinach fritters added. I was also a big fan of the Elvis smoothie, which mixes flavors of peanut butter, coconut, banana, and chocolate in a lovely blend.
I enjoyed the Adventurer bowl as well, although it wasn't as good as I remembered in Cambridge. I think they used less sauce than ideal, so while tasty, it didn't have as much flavor as I remember it having before.
Still, I'm very happy to see Life Alive in DC and look forward to going back...
