I am writing this for the benefit of anyone applying for a tourist visa to travel to peru. I printed the application form that was available online and arrived at the consulate on a Friday morning. if you don't have the form they give you a blank one there to fill up. The counter is open from 830 to 1:00. I had to show hotel reservations, flight tickets, itinerary and bank statements. You need hotel reservations for ALL days that you are in peru and online copies of this information is not sufficient - bring printed copies . (if you don't have something, there is a staples nearby where you can print stuff out- I did not have hotel reservation for 2 out of 10 days and they insisted I get it before applying for a visa. I did it online and printed it out at the staples). They took my application, $30 service fee and passport + proof of legal residence in the US. I had to wait about 30-45mins, then got back my greencard. They said it would take about 5 days to process. On the following Tuesday (2 business days later) I got a call saying I could pick up the passport on Wednesday. In all a pretty easy process. The only thing that would have made it better would be if there had been an English version of the website - it was a bit difficult to navigate through the Spanish version and find the link to the visa...
Read moreI give the consulate 5 stars. Everything that I needed was clearly detailed in their website, which made my appointments so easy and as fast as 15 minutes (both for passport renewals).
For those who have reviewed the Consulate badly, you need to check yourselves out. Just because the Consultate "didn't tell you" what you needed, doesn't mean it's their fault. You can look up everything in the website yourself.
Story time: I had this lady ahead of me who came to her appointment late. She complained to one officer that she "was dying in the cold" because she "wasn't psychologically told" that she could open the door. When I pulled the door, it was actually open; it just needed to be pulled a bit harder. Then she complained to another officer that she "wasn't told over the phone" about what forms to have and how much to pay. And that's not all! She then complained that the Consulate people "made her waste her time" with all the forms she had to fill out. To top it off, she ran over my appointment time. I think she was there for like 40 minutes at least. Then when it was my turn, I got everything done in 15 minutes, because I don't expect to be catered on some high horse like you, bad reviewers.

Read moreI have been trying to help someone get their passport and after many failed attempts to use the not very friendly website, we managed to get an appt. It has been more than 2 months since we have heard any updates and every time I call the number on the website nobody ever answers nor do they return calls, I have also sent several emails and no response. I have called their emergency number to get a response and once again there is no answer from anyone. Whenever trying to get an update from the website the information on updated documents (Passports) is at 2 weeks old or longer. The emergency phone number provides an erroneous phone number to get updates, but that number is not currently working, nor has been working for over 2 months. The website is very busy and overloaded with too much stuff that perhaps is not as relevant or important overall. I haven't experienced in-person customer service, but over the phone and website, customer service is definitely one of the worse I have...
