My friend and I enjoyed a very nice dinner here last month. The food was very good overall, service was excellent, and it had a friendly and warm atmosphere.

I started with the French Onion Soup Gratiné (Gruyère, croutons, Port) and while not epic, it was one of the better ones I've had in DC.

We then shared an excellent Kale and Brussels Sprout Salad (roasted sweet potato, dried cranberries, candied pecans, goat cheese, sherry-maple vinaigrette) which was bursting with distinct flavors and textures. Quite good.

We also enjoyed the Miso Salmon Tartare (wasabi cream, sriracha aioli, wakame seaweed and anise crisps) which also had great texture, but the delight was in the creamy blend of the wasabi and Sriracha flavor, giving this some welcome heat. Superb.

As for my main, I had Ris' Cheeseburger (house made potato roll, onion jam, secret sauce, pickles and a side of Kennebec fries), and it was a very solid burger, zero complaints.

My friend enjoyed his Pepita Crusted Salmon (shrimp, chiles, lime, tomato, hominy, tomatillos, pico de gallo, ancho crema, cilantro), a very creative preparation.

Service was attentive, engaged and very professional.

Definitely...

Another Restaurant Week 2025 stop: Ris.
What pulled me in? A standout menu featuring delicious dishes, flexible pricing tiers, and a clever twist—if you're not flying solo or ravenous, you can swap one of your courses for a glass of house wine or beer. Yes, please.

We grabbed seats at the bar, where Greg took great care of us. With a chilled glass of rosé in hand, (though on the menu) he remind us by pointing out the course swap.

We split the mussels appetizer (excellent), enjoyed our own entrees, and shared a dessert. Though honestly, I instantly regretted splitting that dessert... it was that good. And the scoop of ice cream? The perfect finishing touch.

Bonus points to Greg for going the extra mile and helping me figure out if the patron down the bar was someone I knew (verdict: was not).

The food? Delicious. The service? Top-notch.

Don’t let the construction nearby deter you—Ris is open, and...

My wife and I were part of a group of seven people that ate at RIS yesterday evening at about 5:30p.

We made the choice to eat outside due to the nice summer weather. Unfortunately that was a mistake. We spent the entire meal fighting off mosquitos, flies, and bees.

I received probably 10 bites on my legs and arm. I have not received more than a couple of mosquito bites this entire summer until last night.

My guess is that these bugs are living in the nice planters that line the outside dining area and perhaps the curbside planters.

They might want to consider spraying those planters so that future guests might be able to enjoy their meal. There was also a melted popsicle on the ground near to our table that could have accounted for all of the attention from the bees.

Regarding the meal and service. My rock fish and the cobbler were very enjoyable. The...

My friends who work nearby joined me for lunch during Restaurant Week. Having dined at Ris before, they highly recommended the place and now I understand why. For starter I savored a large bowl of mussels in a tomato based broth. It only came with a toasted garlic bread slice; I would have enjoyed either more bread or a spoon to be able to savor every drop. For entree I enjoyed a large trout filet perfectly cooked atop a bed of veggies and baby potatoes. For dessert I marveled at apple pie ice cream, with swirled in pieces of cooked apple-- a sort of inverted pie a la mode (see photo). One of my friends enjoyed a dark chocolate creation (see photo). Altogether a beautifully served and presented meal, that tasted almost better than it looked, an excellent value and a memorable meal.
