More and more in DC, you're noticing a steep decline in service. Restauranteurs are opening places, doing an OK job with the renovations (we used to go here for brunch a lot before it was Saga, and the renovations are very basic), bring in completely untrained staff, and charge premium prices. The hostess took 5 minutes to find our reservations, I'm not sure why. Then when we pointed out that the table we wanted is being occupied by a group that just ordered drinks, meaning they just obviously got here, her reply was "yea I gave your table away, they really wanted to sit there. :) Kind of defeats the purpose of a reservation, no?
The portions are way too small for what they charge, the waitress (not the politest and arguably the most unprofessional waitress I've dealt with in a "high end establishment (think Denny's server), also acknowledged that "they may be running low on protein, so they'll cut back from individual portions" :) Yet, you still get the privilege of paying full price. The waitress was also kind enough to raise her voice, when you could not understand what she was saying due to her very deep accent, so getting yelled at while eating was a unique experience. She can afford to be as rude as she wants since you're charged a 22% service fee ahead of time. Drinks were kind of awful, very little alcohol, even if you asked, or perhaps begged for a double and were willing to pay any amount of money. Maybe they're looking out for your health. Alcohol is after all not very good for you.
Over experience, borderline terrible. There were a couple of very tasty dishes, hence leaving a 2 star review, and not, but to be frank the food overall wasn't great, combined with the other experiences, is a definite no for me/us. There are plenty of other places that you can go to in DC for a phenomenal experience. DC has become a "baby NYC" when it comes to food, so why bother with...
Read moreCame here to try their all you can eat tapas - I was excited to try a new restaurant on the west end, its really beautiful on the inside and each time I passed it I wondered what it was like... Now - The drinks were pretty good, nothing fancy, except the Sangria presentation which came in a coat holder and a satchel, kind of weird, but you know part of the experience... The food however was something I was really taken back on... It was salty, or too sour, and even the tortilla potata was really dry that I asked for sauce to help it... the only favorites we had were the Chicken Croquettes, Potata's Bravas, and the Pulpo... seriously out of the entire menu those were the only ones we liked. oh and the egg!. The potata's brava's were cut super small, the flavor was delicious, but we wished it was thicker cuts of potato... I would have been happier with the food but the strangest thing was that the pulpo was AMAZING the entire time, except the last order.. I think they may have been tired of us ordering it (joke) but it came out with an entirely different flavor and had a lot of oil.... I sent it back because I couldn't eat it... I asked for the way they had served it previously... idk what they were thinking to change the way it was sent out... which is kind of embarrassing on them... I don't think I'd come back for the food, maybe some small bites and drinks... but the service was good, we didn't complain other than the pulpo... we just thought.. maybe it wasn't our type of place to be... spent about $400 just on two people I think it mainly came from the drinks and gratuity which is fine. Rock - Jesus - and the Food runner, whose name I forgot - from Mexico - were all really nice.. so thank you for letting me enjoy my date (we were passed the window time so I appreciate the patience we just wanted to be in our own...
Read moreI rarely write reviews, but this restaurant was truly marvelous. We went for breakfast, and woke up the next morning craving it again so went a second time!
The first day we split the avocado toast and apple cinnamon pancakes. Unbelievable, both of them! The avocado toast was pricey so we hesitated to order it, yet worth every single penny. Piled high with guacamole, it also had small onions, feta cheese, tomatoes, radishes, and a boiled egg.
The warm pancakes had large swirls of cinnamon/sugar, with spiced stewed apples. There was a marscapone whipped cream which I adored - and I normally never eat whipped cream. It really added to the flavor of the dish. The pancakes themselves had a delicious flavor that balanced well with the maple and bourbon syrup.
They even had a perfectly-paired Earl Grey for the food, by Palais des Thes.
The next day we wanted to order two avocado toasts so we didn’t have to share. We controlled ourselves and only ordered one again, and this time tried the French toast as well. Also amazing! It is quite different from other French toasts, all the bread is together instead of being sliced. It looked like it was going to be super heavy and way too much food, but actually it was rather light and a great proportion. Covered in strawberry sauce which seeped into it when cut, it also had fresh berries on the top. Again there was a whipped cream with vanilla inside which I loved (I’m very picky about whipped cream) as well as the syrup. The whole thing was chewy goodness and addictive.
We cannot speak to the dinner menu as we haven’t tried it, but the breakfast was out of this world. 10...
