Took my mom here because her favorite place, Ducktails, closed down recently and we had heard good things about Nayhely’s. The restaurant seemed clean, the staff was very friendly and the menu was what I would expect from a small diner. We both opted for ham and cheese omelettes. Whenever I’m trying a new breakfast place that’s typically what I will order because if you can do an omelette decently then you should be able to do everything else really well. I ordered coffee and they brought a carafe of coffee which I haven’t seen a place do that in forever so that was really cool. My mom ordered tea and they brought her a carafe of hot water also so that was really neat to see and something completely unique.
My mom ordered hashbrowns and a biscuit (which looked to be homemade). I had toast and home fries with mine. The hashbrowns were cooked well and Mom said the biscuit was great. My toast was fine as it’s hard to screw up toast and home fries were pretty good also although they felt more like a cross between french fries and almost like a tater tot than home fries but they were crunchy on the outside good texture on the inside and tasty so that was a win. The only challenge were the omelettes. Both were overcooked, dry and very little ham or cheese in them. They looked more like scrambled eggs with a little ham and cheese cooked in it that was allowed to sit and set up and then just folded over (not an omelette with a filling).
We wanted to like the place and maybe omelettes aren’t their thing as we saw multiple orders of chicken fried steak and eggs and pancakes coming out from the kitchen that looked good. Unfortunately, this place is a pass for me though. I do hope they do well with their regular clients as it’s great to see a...
Read moreThey were kind, gentle, welcoming people and the food reflected care, creativity and passion. Their Nayhely's Clubhouse arrived on the table like an art piece. It was beautiful! It was a study in contrast and color.
Honestly, I was a tad shocked I had expected a simple clubhouse and what I got was an architectural thing of beauty! A precise structure of delicious color attempting to restrain a marvelous chaos of french fries as they tumble free… see the pictures. You’ll understand.
What I’m saying was that not only was it a great clubhouse, toasted to perfection on dark rye, it was presented with care and creativity, by kind and friendly people. In what universe could you ask for anything more? The customers seemed mostly regulars having mostly breakfast which is served all day, this is perhaps a philosophy that I need to examine as I get older.
Maybe as I reach my twilight years if I go to restaurants in the afternoons and have breakfast in places where the owners know my name and I can have pie for dessert I can stop time? But I’ll tell you one thing, all the hip young people who line up in the streets for hours in Portland are missing out on some damn magical food by not coming to places like Nayhely's Place.
It’s a simple establishment. Unassuming is the word. Not a first date kind of spot unless your date is a true keeper. It is one of those absolute family run hole in the wall secret places with loyal local followings. You’ll see a lot of old people there. You’ll see a lot of cops. A lot of working people. A lot of people will know each other’s names.
It’s...

We ordered the Hearty Breakfast and the New York Steak and eggs meals. The toast was not sourdough as ordered and was the consistency of a crouton. The eggs were not seasoned and although my over medium eggs were cooked correctly, my son's over easy were not. My steak was well done, when I ordered medium rare. It had no pink or red to it plus a huge line of fat along the side so I cut a huge chunk off since the fat was hard and not edible, as was about half the steak itself. It also had no seasoning on it whatsoever. My son's hashbrowns were not extra crispy as ordered, but barely cooked. My homestyle potatoes were cooked but not seasoned at all, not even salt. My son's buttermilk pancakes were fluffy and very good. The orange juice was good as it was "Florida's all natural Country Style".
The restaurant was very clean. Not sure about the restrooms as everything is closed to dine-in per state mandates currently in effect.
When I called about the mistakes, the only response was, "oh!" and eventually a thank you for telling her, but offered no solutions. Sadly, I am very disappointed as I was looking forward to finding...
