You ever go to write a review and have to start off with a sigh?
Where you end up asking yourself, why must I relieve the trauma of a bad meal?
I know. I know. If the delicate taste of wet wide rule paper is the greatest injustice I face today, what really do I have to complain about, right? So instead I'll explain the context of what made me order $30 of bland empty calories.
After a long days work I ordered this meal to go. As I was feeling dangerous I didn't check the contents of the bag. Opting instead to just give it a good shake, allowing my ears to determine the culinary contents inside.
Oddly, the confirmation that I had a drink in the bag turned out to be the highlight of the meal. As I would later find out once home that the drink wasn't the thai ice tea I ordered. Rather it was a watered down thai iced coffee. I do not drink nor like coffee, muchless cold coffee. However, this particular drink was the reprieve to the meal as they have concocted a way to make milk extra wet, with just a hint of water, such that this iced coffee that was palatable to my non coffee drinking tongue.
If you drink actual coffee, much less good coffee, I do not recommend. But of you prefer your coffee to be extra wet milk with the viscosity of water but look of pond run off, their iced coffee is definitely for you.
Now the meal...💩🙊🙈🙉. This version of vermicelli is bested expressed in emojis. So, whatever emoji represents 😟 🙁 😥 😞 best in your mind, that's how this meal made me feel.
And as a fat kid I feel bad enough eating to excess as it is. And don't need my empty calories to compound the guilt. So, won't be eating here again. But do encourage you to try it out, if only to refresh your palate for when you have delicious vermicelli. That way you can savoir it...
Read moreMy wife and I were looking for lunch when visiting DC for the day, but many of the city's Vietnamese restaurants are closed on Tuesday. Luckily, Pho Viet USA was open. I didn't realize how convenient Pho Viet USA is to the Metro until we arrived. The Georgia Avenue/Petworth Metro station (Green Line) is about 50 yards away.
Pho Viet USA is located in the ground floor of one of the neighborhoods row houses. The dining room is spartan and reminiscent of many family-run Vietnamese restaurants in the U.S. and Vietnam, with the focus on food instead of decor. The single unisex bathroom was modern, roomy, and quite clean.
The menu is limited to beverages (teas and coffees), appetizers (spring and summer rolls), 5-6 pho dishes, and a few noodle and rice dishes. I ordered the beef pho and my wife ordered the special combo. Meals were ready in less than 10 minutes. Flavor was excellent and the servings were very generous. My only minor complaint would be that the beef was cut very large and was difficult to eat with noodles in one bite. Total for both of us to eat was very reasonable for Washington, DC . . . about $25.
Because of Pho Viet USA's proximity to Metro, generous servings, and reasonable prices, we will definitely return...
Read moreWords cannot describe the craving that I was having today for some Asian food and I feel like I had waited forever to heck this place out. I had walked past here a few times on my way to the metro, but they were closed because it was early in the morning. Today I had come at the right time, because I knew that their dinner rush was coming, probably at around 7pm. When I walked in, they had the coolest music playing! I went for something unique that I read about online. The rare steak brisket pho ncluded a side of line bean sprouts that was delicious. As soon as I placed my order, I found a table close to the front It took them no time at all to prepare the food and it was well worth the few minutes of wait! This beef was steaming with flavor and it was quite moiste. I was trying very hard to save some of this for later, but the problem was that I just couldn't stop eating because I was too damn hungry! The two people working behind the counter were...
