The menu here is just awesome. I think Iāve tried everything and everything is very good, clearly made with care by people who actually eat the food they make. they like big flavors here. The chicken teriyaki is barbecued just the side of blackened with a powerfully flavorful sauce. The sauce has the familiar comforting teriyaki combo of salty sweet and tangy but leans less on the sugar and more on the ginger and slightly more complex flavors. But itās still definitely teriyaki. The tofu teriyaki is awesome, a crispy fried medium firm slab on top of perfectly cooked rice. Get the deluxe! Mac salad? Yum. Crispy eggroll for texture. Satisfying.
Donāt skip the deluxe fries with kewpie mayo, furikake, and chili crisp my dude.
So teriyaki is associated with being cheap, and this is not really that kind of teriyaki. However, I will say that relative to other dining options on the island, the vibe is great and social, the food is excellent, and to be honest youāre not going to eat out for cheaper on the island pretty much anywhere unless you go to the Thriftway deli (not knocking the Thriftway deli, I love me some chicken strips).
Oh yeah and itās also a craft beer and craft soda and wine store, I think thatās probably the main point of the place? But obviously you can get amazing selections of beer and wine.
And then right next door is the delightful Vashon Creamery...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe staff at Soda Pop Shop seemed like solid individualsāfriendly and welcomingāso this rating is strictly based on the food. I ordered the Teriyaki Deluxe Plate, which looked visually amazing and is what drew me in. Unfortunately, the flavor didnāt match the presentation. The chicken lacked depthāmostly just tasted like chili oil and saltāand the mac salad was far too sweet for my taste. The standout parts were the fresh salad and the spring roll, which were solid.
I also grabbed a musubi, but it looked and tasted dry, like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for a while. As a Polynesian, these are staples of my cultureās food that Iāve had a million times, so I came in with high hopes and an open mind. Iām always down to see new takes on traditional flavors, but this missed the mark for me.
That said, $25 is a fair price for a solid plateāthis just wasnāt it this time. Iām still interested in checking out more of the menu over the summer to see if there are some hidden gems or flavorful options. Hoping for a better...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWalked by with my dog and wanted to pop in real quick to grab a couple things. Looked around, saw nowhere to tie up my dog. No hooks, no nothing. So, tied her to a table as close as I could to the sidewalk. Imagine maybe 2 feet from the sidewalk.
Go in, grab my things, about to check out and I hear a āWHOSE DOG IS THIS.ā I raise my hand, it me! Guy absolutely mean mugs me. YOU CANT HAVE YOUR DOG IN HERE. Woah dude, aggressive. Ok. I put down the stuff I was going to buy, walk over to untie my dog. Mind you, this guy is straight up mean mugging me every step of the way. Until I untie her and walk out.
Must have been the owner. Absolute jerk. Someone else even commented how much of a jerk he was being.
Anyway, if you have a dog and want to support this guyās business, I guess you canāt! Nowhere to leave your dog while you spend your money at his store.
Sad, cause the woman at the front was really sweet. Now Iāll forever have a bad taste in my mouth...
