The menu here is just awesome. I think I’ve tried everything and everything is very good, clearly made with care by people who actually eat the food they make. they like big flavors here. The chicken teriyaki is barbecued just the side of blackened with a powerfully flavorful sauce. The sauce has the familiar comforting teriyaki combo of salty sweet and tangy but leans less on the sugar and more on the ginger and slightly more complex flavors. But it’s still definitely teriyaki. The tofu teriyaki is awesome, a crispy fried medium firm slab on top of perfectly cooked rice. Get the deluxe! Mac salad? Yum. Crispy eggroll for texture. Satisfying.

Don’t skip the deluxe fries with kewpie mayo, furikake, and chili crisp my dude.

So teriyaki is associated with being cheap, and this is not really that kind of teriyaki. However, I will say that relative to other dining options on the island, the vibe is great and social, the food is excellent, and to be honest you’re not going to eat out for cheaper on the island pretty much anywhere unless you go to the Thriftway deli (not knocking the Thriftway deli, I love me some chicken strips).

Oh yeah and it’s also a craft beer and craft soda and wine store, I think that’s probably the main point of the place? But obviously you can get amazing selections of beer and wine.

And then right next door is the delightful Vashon Creamery...

The staff at Soda Pop Shop seemed like solid individuals—friendly and welcoming—so this rating is strictly based on the food. I ordered the Teriyaki Deluxe Plate, which looked visually amazing and is what drew me in. Unfortunately, the flavor didn’t match the presentation. The chicken lacked depth—mostly just tasted like chili oil and salt—and the mac salad was far too sweet for my taste. The standout parts were the fresh salad and the spring roll, which were solid.

I also grabbed a musubi, but it looked and tasted dry, like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for a while. As a Polynesian, these are staples of my culture’s food that I’ve had a million times, so I came in with high hopes and an open mind. I’m always down to see new takes on traditional flavors, but this missed the mark for me.

That said, $25 is a fair price for a solid plate—this just wasn’t it this time. I’m still interested in checking out more of the menu over the summer to see if there are some hidden gems or flavorful options. Hoping for a better...

Walked by with my dog and wanted to pop in real quick to grab a couple things. Looked around, saw nowhere to tie up my dog. No hooks, no nothing. So, tied her to a table as close as I could to the sidewalk. Imagine maybe 2 feet from the sidewalk.

Go in, grab my things, about to check out and I hear a ā€œWHOSE DOG IS THIS.ā€ I raise my hand, it me! Guy absolutely mean mugs me. YOU CANT HAVE YOUR DOG IN HERE. Woah dude, aggressive. Ok. I put down the stuff I was going to buy, walk over to untie my dog. Mind you, this guy is straight up mean mugging me every step of the way. Until I untie her and walk out.

Must have been the owner. Absolute jerk. Someone else even commented how much of a jerk he was being.

Anyway, if you have a dog and want to support this guy’s business, I guess you can’t! Nowhere to leave your dog while you spend your money at his store.

Sad, cause the woman at the front was really sweet. Now I’ll forever have a bad taste in my mouth...

Pop Pop is a lovely experience. Perfectly tender and charred chicken, a godly mac salad side, crispy greens with ginger dressing, all topped with chili crisp and the salty/sweet tang of carefully concocted homemade teriyaki (and that's just the food). A plethora of locally sourced beer and wine awaits next to the bar lined with taps linked to kegs that are discovered and picked up from nearby breweries by the owners themselves. Care and heart goes into each sip and forkful here, and it shows throughout. Kids tagging along? The doors are always open to the glass bottle creamery next door, where hand made ice cream, perfectly chewy chipwiches, and classic arcade games will occupy their attention while you feast. Come to pop pop.
