I've ordered from here multiple times and the food is consistently delicious.
My favorite items:
Reuben egg roll: not like anything I've tried before. Classic crunchy egg roll wrapper filled with faux pastrami and cabbage. A new take on the classic egg roll that is absolutely delicious. I always get this when I order here.
Firecracker fingers: This is the other item I get here every time I order. Plant based faux chicken strips breaded and tossed in a savory, extremely flavorful and perfectly spiced sauce. It's a pretty generous portion (definitely enough for a full meal along with a side salad). Sometimes I split it and add some rice and save the leftovers for the next day (it keeps well in the fridge).
General chicken bowl: I usually get half rice and half greens. This is such a satisfying dish that's filling enough (and decently balanced enough) to be a full meal. The rice (I'm not sure which blend they use) is nutty and flavorful and pairs well with the greens. The greens are crispy and not overly dressed. There's seasoned broccoli which is always amazing. And of course the general Tso chicken chunks which have a nice chewy texture and the flavorful sauce you crave in a general tso dish.
Ok items:
Kung pao cauliflower: nice and saucy with good crunch from the cashews. Decent spice. A nice veggie side dish but probably something you could make yourself.
Garlic broccoli: saucy and flavorful. Also a nice veggie side dish, and also something you could probably make yourself.
Orange sunshine fingers: these are fine, but the firecracker fingers are just so much better in my opinion.
Sichuan dumplings: They are ok; I can't be a fair judge of these because they have cilantro and I am one of those people. The description doesn't make clear that there's cilantro both garnished on top and inside the dumplings, so be warned.
I would 100% give this place and try and see what you like. Thank you to the owners for making so many tasty plant based options...
Read moreI have been a loyal customer of Pow Pow's H Street NE DC location for several years, and while I appreciate their commitment to offering 100% vegan options and a diverse menu that caters to various taste preferences, my recent experiences have been inconsistent and often disappointing.
Customer service at this location particularly and the Franklin Square location(infrequently) has been hit or miss. While some staff members are welcoming and professional, I've encountered numerous instances of nonchalant and rude responses when addressing incorrect or missing items in my orders. I've also faced negative reactions regarding requests for substitutions or exclusions, despite always paying for these modifications and leaving tips.
Furthermore, I have attempted to contact management multiple times via email to address these concerns, but my messages have either been ignored or met with a lack of genuine regard for my feedback as a paying customer. Most recently, I experienced a particularly disturbing incident involving a staff member whose behavior appeared to be racially motivated.
Beyond the service issues, there have been several occasions where my daughters and I have found hair in our food (of which I have photo evidence), and other times the food quality has been subpar. When ordering delivery, I've received orders that were completely incorrect, and I was informed that nothing could be done, forcing me to inconveniently drive to the restaurant to pick up a corrected order after already paying a delivery fee.
Despite these challenges, when the food is prepared with care and precision, it is truly excellent. I believe that with focused training in customer service, a refresher on hygienic food handling practices, and an emphasis on order accuracy, the relationship between their business and its customers, including myself, could...
Read moreVegan Paradise full of flavor! I'm so glad Pow Pow went Vegan all the way since May with a variety of hearty dishes. Love the Yoda Bowl!
The Yoda Bowl is loaded with veggies with crunchy sriracha cashews that adds a nice kick, hearty grilled chicken mock meat coated in savory peanut sauce, and drizzle of creamy zesty cucumber lime sauce. Although I appreciate the variety of ingredients, the tomatoes and carrots didn't blend well together with black beans, edamame and the rice quinoa mix. I think mushrooms, broccoli, or corn would have been a better pairing. There's a seasonal bowl similar to the Yoda bowl, but with sweet potato instead of the mock meat, which I would try next time!
My meat-loving husband loved the crispy fried fingers smothered in sauce. I got 1/2 with the traditional firecracker sauce which is like a tangy buffalo sauce and other 1/2 with teriyaki sauce. I honestly couldn't taste the difference between the sauces. The only difference I could taste were the plain vs black sesame seeds. I enjoyed the sesame sauce. As the fried mock meat was doused in sauce, it had a very bold flavor that overpowered the Yoda Bowl. I love wings coated in sauce, but not to the point that the wings are swimming in sauce and leave little puddles as I pick them up. I recommend getting the sauce on the side.
I wasn't a fan of the Trolley Fries. I wanted to love the fries as they were loaded with my favorite ingredients (sriracha mayo, kimichi, scallians, ketchup), but the fries weren't crispy and lukewarm. Also the toppings were a bit of overload and sadly I ended up tossing out the entire tray of fries after a few bites.
Plenty of great choices and fun to try. Save your appetite for...
