Tucked away in an unassuming corner of Washington DC, Sol Mexican Grill stands as a delightful hole-in-the-wall establishment that serves up some of the city's most authentic Mexican cuisine. While it may lack the glamour and table service of upscale restaurants, this humble eatery surprises visitors with its warm atmosphere, friendly staff, and mouthwatering dishes. Let's delve into what makes Sol Mexican Grill a true hidden gem for food enthusiasts.

Sol Mexican Grill may not boast an elaborate dining experience, but what it lacks in extravagance, it more than compensates for with its genuine charm and flavorful offerings. As you step into this unpretentious establishment, you'll immediately notice the bustling and lively atmosphere that permeates the space. The casual setting adds to the restaurant's unassuming appeal, creating an ambiance that is relaxed and comfortable.

At Sol Mexican Grill, the focus is on the food, which takes center stage with its authentic flavors and quality ingredients. The menu, though simple, offers a range of Mexican favorites that are prepared with care and attention to detail. From the first bite to the last, you'll be treated to robust and tantalizing flavors that transport you straight to the heart of Mexico. Whether it's the zesty salsa, the perfectly seasoned tacos, or the hearty burritos, each dish is a testament to the chef's dedication to delivering an authentic culinary experience.

It's important to note that Sol Mexican Grill operates without traditional table service. Instead, it follows a self-service model where you place your order at the counter and find a seat to enjoy your meal. While this may be different from what some diners are accustomed to, it adds to the unique charm of the place. The friendly staff is always on hand to assist with any questions you may have or to offer recommendations, making the experience feel personal and welcoming.

While Sol Mexican Grill may not offer the bells and whistles of a fine dining establishment, its true value lies in the warmth of its people and the flavors of its food. The staff members are friendly and attentive, taking the time to ensure that you have a pleasant visit. Their genuine hospitality adds an extra layer of charm to the overall experience, making you feel like a part of the Sol Mexican Grill community.

In conclusion, Sol Mexican Grill is a hidden gem in Washington DC that may not boast lavish surroundings or traditional table service. However, its unassuming nature is part of its charm, offering a genuine and satisfying experience for those seeking authentic Mexican cuisine. Embrace the relaxed atmosphere, interact with the friendly staff, and savor the delightful flavors that transport you to the heart of Mexico. Sol Mexican Grill is proof that sometimes the best culinary discoveries are found in the most...

UPDATE:

After a few negative experiences at Sol, I took a break for several years. Tonight, I went back with the assumption that restaurants, like people, evolve. I was wrong. It was once again, a two-star experience. Here's why:

  1. Food: Although the tacos come filled well, they lack taste compared to most taco spots in the area. The queso is okay, but still lacks the flavor kick you'd expect.

  2. Ordering: I ordered online, double checked my order and showed up at the appropriate time. Easy enough. Nope. When I checked my order, queso was missing and half the tacos came on corn v. flour.

  3. Customer Service: When I asked about the incorrect order, the staff were cold and disconnected. They said they can't do anything. Eventually, they gave me queso, but only after insisting they check my order to verify my story.

If you want quality tacos, skip Sol and head to Taco City DC south of H Street NE in the Navy Yard area. As a food truck, this place has game. As a restaurant, it does not. Why go here when you can get better food at Chipotle. We thought the upstairs would be fun and, at first, it looks cool with their wood deck and lights, but the food isn't that good and the servers act like...

Yesterday, we ordered dinner for four people to celebrate my daughter's birthday. When picking-up the food, we noticed one of the bags was about to tear, so we asked for it to be double bagged. The employee decided to re-bag the food. When we got home, some of our order was missing. We had to drive back another 15 minute ride because they do not deliver! The apology offered was empty and insincere. They could care less about satisfying a dissatisfied customer who spent over $100 based on the recommendation and reviews of others. Needless to say, it was very upsetting. I will not spend another dime with this business that does not value customer service. Lets see how their corporate office feels about this situation and what the response will be.The employee's command of the English language was inadequate. I suggest they put lids over the food, when not serving from the containers, because flies were in the building. I gave a one star rating because the food was good, but that is ALL...

This was my first time here and I gave it 2 stars because my Fish Taco was delicious. The quesadilla was ok. I saw some of the other reviews and I agree it’s not really well seasoned (the protein) the chips were a bit stale. My sister ordered a bowl it was barely protein in it for $10. I did not like the inside of the restaurant it wasn’t welcoming at all. Look like a old run down place. The kitchen is so small. The cashier was rude didn’t even let me add a tip or give me a receipt she just started ringing up the next person. So I asked her for my receipt and she called over someone else and that person asked me when did I order and what did I have. 🤦🏾‍♀️ I like chipotle better no Alero’s on U street is way better than this place.
