I'm torn. We sat down at 7:30, finally got our menus at 7:45, promptly ordered, but after waiting and waiting and waiting our food finally came at 8:35. In-between this time we were never checked on and our drinks sat empty.
I had read such great reviews that I was hoping for more, but ok, let's try the food.
I had the Philly Steak and Cheese, my wife had the Chicken Fried Steak, both of which I had read rave reviews about. My sandwich was really dry, but the bread was good and the meat was good. Just dry. The fries were cold, but seasoned well, so I thought I could save them with some ketchup, think again. It may be in a Heinz bottle, but it is not Heinz. That was some very sweet fruity red stuff. My favorite part of my meal was the peppers on the plate.
The wife's mashed potatoes were cold with slightly warmer than room temperature gravy on top, but luckily her "chicken" was warm and she said the gravy was good. It came with a side of vegetables that were also cold but tasted all right.
Again no waters.
After eating we waited for an opportunity to wave down the waiter for the check, another ten minutes later the table behind us is waiving frantically just short of jumping up and down to catch her attention. She finally brings the check and to her credit apologized.
After hearing so much good and looking forward to trying them, I am as I said, torn. I really wanted to write a good review but at this point I don't even think they...
Read moreThe inside has been upgraded with cloth and glass tabletops--and the dining space is IMPECCABLE in cleanliness! Not a single spot on the glasses or silverware! The service is genuine "hometown" and unparalleled anywhere in the city, perhaps the county. The menu is fantastic, several options that vary from the norm of cafes, e.g., the Montecristo breakfast plate and the California Eggs Benedict. However--and this is something I've noticed in three different visits here- is the inexplicable use of pre-chopped(machine-chopped) vegetables that BARELY see a flash on the grill! This leaves the bell peppers and onions 'crunchy' on the plate. The "home style" potatoes are again "pre-made' and frozen and seemingly cooked in a deep fryer. Finally, if the "stars" of the menu are not seen as the stars on the plate, it is going to disappoint the patron, e.g., avocado shouldn't be hidden, and if the menu says ham on the benedict and also bacon, then BOTH should be in the plate that's served. To be honest, parts of my plate were cold, not room temperature. It was a huge disappointment. That said, everything looked beautiful! And, patrons who pay with cash get a $2 discount! With just a couple adjustments within the kitchen, this place wouldn't be able to meet with...
Read moreI wanted to like the food after reading so many great reviews, but we ordered Deep Fried Vegetables but didn't receive them (we had Door Dash deliver the meal. This is the second time they have screwed up our order, will NOT use them again) The salad was wilted, it seemed more like we were given the 3-day-old lettuce over anything fresh (honestly - I was almost sick) the steak was cut up and mixed into the salad which I didn't expect, we were wanting a steak and salad SEPARATE - and it wasn't cooked how we requested. It was more raw than I wanted, so I passed on that, although the piece I had was tasty - just too raw for me.
The fries with the burger were undercooked and not appetizing and about the only good thing was the fact that I mentioned 'Ranch Dressing' in my notes when we ordered and they sent a TONNE of dressing, so that was appreciated. But with what we paid for and didn't get, with how the food was presented and cooked (despite how we asked it to be) I can't say I'll order from here again, but it's possible we just caught them on a bad night. But I'll never know - we won't be eating here again. Dang!
It's sad because I REALLY wanted to enjoy my dinner from here - I'm not even that picky and I just couldn't make it work. So...
