I'm torn. We sat down at 7:30, finally got our menus at 7:45, promptly ordered, but after waiting and waiting and waiting our food finally came at 8:35. In-between this time we were never checked on and our drinks sat empty.

I had read such great reviews that I was hoping for more, but ok, let's try the food.

I had the Philly Steak and Cheese, my wife had the Chicken Fried Steak, both of which I had read rave reviews about. My sandwich was really dry, but the bread was good and the meat was good. Just dry. The fries were cold, but seasoned well, so I thought I could save them with some ketchup, think again. It may be in a Heinz bottle, but it is not Heinz. That was some very sweet fruity red stuff. My favorite part of my meal was the peppers on the plate.

The wife's mashed potatoes were cold with slightly warmer than room temperature gravy on top, but luckily her "chicken" was warm and she said the gravy was good. It came with a side of vegetables that were also cold but tasted all right.

Again no waters.

After eating we waited for an opportunity to wave down the waiter for the check, another ten minutes later the table behind us is waiving frantically just short of jumping up and down to catch her attention. She finally brings the check and to her credit apologized.

After hearing so much good and looking forward to trying them, I am as I said, torn. I really wanted to write a good review but at this point I don't even think they...

The inside has been upgraded with cloth and glass tabletops--and the dining space is IMPECCABLE in cleanliness! Not a single spot on the glasses or silverware! The service is genuine "hometown" and unparalleled anywhere in the city, perhaps the county. The menu is fantastic, several options that vary from the norm of cafes, e.g., the Montecristo breakfast plate and the California Eggs Benedict. However--and this is something I've noticed in three different visits here- is the inexplicable use of pre-chopped(machine-chopped) vegetables that BARELY see a flash on the grill! This leaves the bell peppers and onions 'crunchy' on the plate. The "home style" potatoes are again "pre-made' and frozen and seemingly cooked in a deep fryer. Finally, if the "stars" of the menu are not seen as the stars on the plate, it is going to disappoint the patron, e.g., avocado shouldn't be hidden, and if the menu says ham on the benedict and also bacon, then BOTH should be in the plate that's served. To be honest, parts of my plate were cold, not room temperature. It was a huge disappointment. That said, everything looked beautiful! And, patrons who pay with cash get a $2 discount! With just a couple adjustments within the kitchen, this place wouldn't be able to meet with...

I wanted to like the food after reading so many great reviews, but we ordered Deep Fried Vegetables but didn't receive them (we had Door Dash deliver the meal. This is the second time they have screwed up our order, will NOT use them again) The salad was wilted, it seemed more like we were given the 3-day-old lettuce over anything fresh (honestly - I was almost sick) the steak was cut up and mixed into the salad which I didn't expect, we were wanting a steak and salad SEPARATE - and it wasn't cooked how we requested. It was more raw than I wanted, so I passed on that, although the piece I had was tasty - just too raw for me.

The fries with the burger were undercooked and not appetizing and about the only good thing was the fact that I mentioned 'Ranch Dressing' in my notes when we ordered and they sent a TONNE of dressing, so that was appreciated. But with what we paid for and didn't get, with how the food was presented and cooked (despite how we asked it to be) I can't say I'll order from here again, but it's possible we just caught them on a bad night. But I'll never know - we won't be eating here again. Dang!

It's sad because I REALLY wanted to enjoy my dinner from here - I'm not even that picky and I just couldn't make it work. So...

We ordered appetizers because they were busy and figured appetizers would be a quick bite to eat before I had to be at the airport for my flight home. We ordered naked wings and asked for their habanero mango sauce on the side and an order of crab cheese wontons. The waitress said she was trying to find their habanero mango sauce for our wings but could not find any. She apologized and gave us ranch dressing instead. The waitress also informed us that our crab cheese wontons would be out shortly as they were made fresh. The waitress then came back to our table about 10 minutes later and informed us that they did not have the stuff to make the crab cheese wontons. She apologized to us once more and told us that we would get a discount on our wings. I had eaten at St. Helen's before when visiting family, and it was a good experience, but this last visit was disappointing.

Excellent food and service! We had heard that this little place had great food so we decided to try it out. I'm glad we did! Over-hard eggs are the hardest to cook but they nailed it. NAILED it! Homestyle potatoes weren't deep fried like many places do, they were grilled with onion and green peppers. And the chicken fried steak with country gravy was unbelievably tasty. Then there's the scone with honey butter, don't miss this!! Our server was very attentive and didn't leave us with empty glasses, excellent service!! It was all so good that I didn't even remember to take a picture before tearing into it, so all you get from me is the evidence via an empty plate

Seldom I rate at 5 stars, but everything was so good. The chicken fried steak was delicious, well balanced in flavors the home potatoes were beautifully done, the eggs fluffy, perfect. The presentation was beautiful. Portions were plentiful. The scones are delicious as well, my wife had a vegetarian omelet and all my previous comments apply the same. No tastes overwhelmed any of the other ingredients. So much care for preparation and the service was courteous, fast and friendly, a delightful efficient and pleasing server, Nany took care of us. This is a very well run restaurant, hard to say these things about other places. My respects to all who work there.
