Thomas Jefferson said that visiting Harper's Ferry West Virginia was "worth a voyage across the Atlantic" To me eating at the Brown Bottle was worth more nearly two days stuck at Airports trying to get home it was amazing. I had never eaten there but had always heard of the quality of the place and it did not disappoint. The atmosphere of Frank Sinatra music with the libraries of books make you feel like you are dining in New York City. I saw the pictures of the books before I came and I had to be seated nearhad the prime rib which my waitress said was one of the most popular on the menu. It was very well cooked and delightful to the taste buds. The salad had the cheese shredded uniquely and perfectly and I had a sample of spaghetti in meat sauce. My waitress Ally was perfect to the task and was an expert about the goings on in the Cedar Valley. I do wish the restaurant had Google and Apple Pay but this was an experience I should have had earlier instead of waiting to almost my fifth decade of life to eat there. This restaurant is the place to take an out of towner to eat in Waterloo. The Brown Bottle delivered an exceptional...
Read moreWhen you walk into this itilian resteraunt there is a big beautiful room it was grand, it had couches and a huge staircase. It made me feel like I was a very important person. You are greeted by the employees and are asked if you want a kids menu or normal even if you are a kid. The waitress takes you into a room where there is a bar and booths/tables. The room is filled with italian music dimmed lights and great service. Our waitress, Skyler asked us right away if we wanted drinks and got them right away. Right after she got us our drinks she asked us if we were ready for food.It was busy but the food came at a reasonable time. After we finished food she asked us if we wanted boxes or dessert. When we said yes to both she got us it right away. We asked for strawberry chocolate cheescake, she told us right away that they were out of strawberrys but offered to put chocolate chips on top instead. The dessert was great! This place was amazing and I would definetly cone...
Read moreI grew up in Waterloo and spent many special moments at The Brown Bottle. Like many experiences of your childhood, you start to question if you’ve built it up to be something way better than it actually was. After moving away and taking an 18-year hiatus, my husband, son and I visited Brown Bottle last night. While there have been updates to the decor and I’m sure the menu has changed slightly, nothing has changed with the food. I tasted my son’s spaghetti and cried. All the memories came flooding back of celebrating good report cards, making sports teams, getting engaged, and celebrating retirements. I cried true tears…and then I saw my son smiling as he too experienced the incredible flavors and simplicity of garlic toasties, thick bread, extra cold salad, and the magic of BB lasagna.
Thanks to the chef, waiters, and host for living up to my memories....
