Red Apple is one of those interesting hole in the wall places that has a very unique character. It is well located for those near the downtown area of Waterloo. The place is part restaurant and part Chinese gift store.
They have a large menu and offer 33 different lunch specials for $6.25 and 44 Dinner specials from $7.75. On Tuesdays the lunch specials are just $5.00 dinner specials are $6.00. They also have a kids menu that has some non-Chinese items such as Chicken Nuggets. The food has always been good and their portion sizes for the price you pay is outstanding.
The only downsides is that their service can be slow at times but if you are picking up in their store or eating in they do offer Egg Drop soup and I wish the inside of their restaurant was better kept up. It is not dirty but just disorganized and messy.

I've never had spicy Mongolian beef before, usually tastes like green onion not red pepper, and when ordering cashew chicken that's definitely not spicy, when I called I was informed that's how Mongolian beef is and because we ordered 2in1 special that sauce got all over the other dish making them both spicy. My problem is if you know that this is an issue....WHY NOT SAY SOMETHING WHEN I ORDERED! I would have gladly changed my 2nd dish to something that wouldn't be ruined by a lil cross fluid. I didn't call to get anything free, I called to see if they could remake it, the answer was no. Definitely will never...

I think it was chicken. Didn't love it. The fried wonton was ok. The fried shrimp was pretty good. The shrimp toast was overcooked, and the bread absorbed too much oil. The chicken stick had a good flavor but was dry. The meat stick was dry with a weak flavor. The crab rangoon was mostly cream cheese. I wouldn't order the plattet again, but I'll try a few entrees to see why so many people...
