As locals to the area I do not know why it took us so long to visit! We had heard excellent things and wanted to bring a foreign change student from Italy because she was missing home. We ordered three Neapolitan pizzas: Margerhita, Bianco, and Yukon, as well as the Detroit pepperoni. Our Italian friend said the Neapolitan was “just like home.” It made her smile from ear to ear and send pictures home to her family. She showed us how to eat it - folded in half - no utensils! The Detroit was excellent too.

The service model was unique - order from the app and pay online, then everything is delivered to your table. Super simple but takes away a lot of “hunting” for your server to order or pay. The food was served hot and quickly to our table. Super kind folks and simple easy-going vibe. The decor was simple and fun - beautiful art and incredible live plants all around the restaurant. A true hidden gem in the Cedar Valley and we will be...

We come to Waterloo once a year for golf tournament. We were recommended the Brown Bottle by many people so we got a hotel close to that restaurant. We stumbled upon Basal because it was SO close to our hotel. The pizza was fantastic! The service was amazing. I want to knock them because of technology of ordering but I can’t because that’s my personal preference. My husband is a “high maintenance” eater and he even said it’s one of the best pizzas he has had.

The Yukon pizza is the way to go. We did order the Nutella pizza which is what attracted us to Basal after looking at the menu but it was not our favorite but still all...

I have NEVER in my life tasted and enjoyed pizza so delicious I could cry. The margarita pizza? Oh my God? It’s amazing. It’s magic how good they make that pizza, they also had a chicken parm sandwich that I didn’t see on the menu last time I ordered, but it was also AH-MAZING. I thought I’d even go to Chicago to try to get the same taste of the Marg Pizza and nothing beats it. I hope this place stays here, this is REAL food. Great even. I wish they were open more than 4 days a week because I always happen to remember and crave this place on the wrong days.. But no real complaints. This place is more...

Basil Pizza was a nice addition to our pizza offerings in the area. The location might scare some patrons away but they probably prefer Pizza Hut or Little Caesar’s to grace their Iowa Corn Fed pallets. Basil hasn’t changed much over the years which is both good and bad. Some menu favorites have disappeared. The beer selection is ok but lacks creativity. Their sourdough pizza creations remain delicious and now includes their take on Detroit style which I’ll have to try again but it was pretty good the first time. If you find yourself in downtown Loo’ Basil Pizza is worth a stop. Enjoy!

This is a gem hiding in Waterloo IA. They have an executive chef and it shows! The best Napoleon Pizza I have ever had. The crust melts in your month. Their home made dressing -just added to the stand out experience. The italian-style coffee is not your over sized, over sweet American standard. Their portions are small with a rich smooth flavor. So worth it! The atmosphere takes you away. You wouldn't guess you were in Waterloo. Their staff was so so pleasant and their service excellent. If you are in the Cedar Valley this is a must stop for dinner or lunch!
