La Placita Taqueria — Restaurant in Waterloo

I give this place 1 star only for the food. I order a short rib plate (costillas de res plato) and when I opened it they literally gave me two slices of short rib that were about 5 inches long cut in half... so four 4 2.5 inc h pieces that, I kid you not, could fit into half of my palm & One piece was even smaller than that. No way someone put this $16.50 order in a box and thought it was acceptable. They themselves wouldn't find it acceptable. Its a joke that someone threw five pancake like tortillas, four small half pieces of short rib, watery vegetables, and a cup of flavorless rice & beans and called that a justifiable meal to serve to a customer for $16.50. There was 90% carbs, 5% bones, and 5% meat in my entire plate. The order took long too, which doesn't make sense for what they served me. I had never heard of, let alone been to La Placita Taqueria until it was suggested to me by a family member recently. To say that it far exceeded my expectations is an understatement. For someone who doesn't speak a lick of Spanish, they were friendly, patient, and beyond helpful. The service was superb. I cannot recall ever having better Mexican food. I visit LaPlacita on the regular, and I'm always satisfied. I would give 5 stars for the food as well. However, there are occasional inconsistencies. For instance, most times, the carnitas are tender and juicy. Once in a great while, they're stringy and not as tender. It's most likely that a lower quality chunk of pork came from their supplier. The flavor and seasonings are always great. I highly recommend Tortas, burritos, and sopa's. Chicken or carnitas are my goto. The steak tacos are delicious, too. You will see me...
