The menu is wildly overpriced. These meals would be expensive at half the list price. Nonna Lucia's has, certainly, not gained a new customer. My barber, in Thomaston, recommended Nonna Lucia's to us telling us how the family has been in business for quite some time and even the chef was an Italian from Italy. Okay, we bit.
The daily menu was pedestrian and unimpressive.
Appetizers are priced at entree levels. Escarole and beans were more than $15, from what I remember. Though I love that dish, there was no way I would order it for that much money.
I didn't see an entree for less than $22.
I went last night with my wife and two of my children. The kids had fettucine Alfredo ($16 a plate) and my wife had the gnocchi ($17). Those gnocchi look like they came from Napoli (the warehouse in Cheshire, not the southern region of Italy).
I made the mistake of ordering off the daily special menu; otherwise, I would not have had anything from the main menu. I tried the veal and peppers. I traded the bell peppers out for the long hots.
If it was veal, it must have been part of the shank. It wasn't any scallopini, that's for sure. I asked the waitress what cut of veal was in the dish and she didn't know. So we asked her to query the chef. By the time the bill arrived she still hadn't responded, again I asked. She said she asked up front, but that they didn't know.
My guess is that it was beef, not veal and they did not want to admit it. By the way, price was $27 for about 4 ounces of "veal" and a couple of cut up long hots served over ziti.
Unfortunately two things happened: first, we won't be back, and; second, I guess I'm going to have to find...
Read moreI was a previous employee at "Nonna Lucia's" 1133 Main St, Watertown, CT 06795. During my time working I was never instructed on doing temp logs at all and failed to ever hear them mentioned once or see of them. Pans were never switched we just refilled them and were in constant use throughout shifts. Towels/rags were to be kept on our person at all times which is high risk to spread illness. Wrapping meats and vegetables at the end of shifts was never stressed or done properly. Seafood, fries, and chicken were all to be dropped in the same fryer as well. There is also no labeling or dates on any of the food and products being used. I've also seen bread be dropped on the floor as well as knives and other kitchen tools to only then be used like nothing happened. As a chef I don't believe this restaurant meets Food health standards and gives a bad name to the real owners who actually do this. I also don't believe the owners know what a servsafe is...
