I work 10 minutes from Waukegan and I don’t have many halal options near me. I was googling and came across this new restaurant and decided to give it a shot.
It recently opened and it’s easily one of the best new restaurants in the neighborhood. It’s a perfect fusion of American and Mexican flavors, and everything we tried was seriously delicious!
We ordered the sope with steak, chicken, and potatoes, the texture of the masa (bread) was perfect. The tacos (we had steak and chicken) were also great, super flavorful, and you could tell the meat was high quality. Wings were amazing, crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside!
The service was top-notch. The staff was super friendly, checked in with us, and really cared about how we were enjoying everything. They even asked for feedback and thanked us for coming in.

I've got to rave about my recent visit to Al Jarrito (ZABIHA HALAL) in Waukegan. This place is seriously a standout! I decided to sample a bit of everything, and let me tell you, it was worth it: the Sope, Tacos, Philly Steak, a Burger (and a real burger, not one of those smash versions!), and the Corn. Each dish was bursting with flavor, clearly made with top-notch ingredients and a lot of care.
What really impressed me, besides the amazing and authentic American/Mexican food (definitely not that Desi halal Mexican!), was the customer service. The staff was super friendly and attentive, and even the cleanliness of the place stood out. It's clear they take pride in every aspect of the restaurant.

It was our first visit here this Friday and let me you, it’s a hidden gem! We ordered Sope- a traditional Mexican dish and the Philly Steak sandwich. They were fresh, flavorful and delicious. Comfort food done right! The owner Mr Saad was very welcoming and so kind, he brought us an Agua de Jamaica, which was super refreshing and a nice tangy surprise.
