We were in town for our sons graduation from Navy boot camp. We.got into town & checked into hotel and needed to find a place to eat dinner failry close to the Naval Station. We were looking for pub grub and found this place after.doing some online searching. The people there were super cool to us from the time we sat down and we felt right at home. I got a pint of beer from a local brewery on tap, wish I could remember what it was but it was good, my wife got some wine which was fine for her. We ordered the cheese curds app, they were tasty. I ordered the Italian beef sandwich w/provolone & fries, my wife ordered a Greek salad . My wife enjoyed her salad and took at least half back to the room. I haven't ever had an Italian beef sandwich before but knew what they are. It was a really good sandwich. Their Giardiniera was on the side but had just the right amount of spice that it went great on the sandwich. I would definitely eat that again. We stayed for their trivia and won a round and got a free breakfast . That Saturday our son shipped out basically in the middle of the night and our flight out was in the afternoon so we went back and had breakfast. When we arrived the staff remembered us and made us feel like regulars. I got a bloody Mary which came with a small beer chaser, my wife got a mimosa. we enjoyed both drinks. I got their corned beef hash, my wife got the French toast. They were both very good. The staff and people there really were super cool to us and we felt like we were in a place we belonged. If we are ever.back in the area we...
Read moreThe Genesee Theatre is a terrific venue and we find ourselves seeing something there (a band, a magician, a celebrity tv show live show) every other month. But we are tired of the same few restaurants. Then last time we saw a green flashing lighted golf cart dropping people off. I googled it and found that the Green Town Tavern will drop you off at the Genesee so you don't have to walk and they'll pick you up again. We tried it and it worked great. Wait staff was very attentive and terrific. Soup was awesome, mozzarella sticks were breaded and the marinara was spicy and had homemade goodness different than anywhere else. The Southwest burgers had more thick bacon than anywhere else, the bbq sauce was perfect, the cheese was melted like it should be and the burger was cooked just the way I liked it. And it was a big burger. Upgraded to fries on one and onion rings on the other. Both were good. Fries were perfect wrinkled type, cooked well. Soda refills were constant. Great service and great food. Seriously a really great burger. What else could we ask for? Hmmmm, how about $8.95 for the burger (plus the upgrade from chips to fries or onion rings, but that was just $1.50 more)? I've had $13.95 burgers that were terrible. This was a big burger done right for a very reasonable price. It's a bar and it's small and it's...a bar...so it's louder than a restaurant. With the free ride to the Theatre, this is the way to go. We...
Read moreWell a coworker suggested this place being the best burgers and mushroom and my he's right. Also heard this is a place for politics within Waukegan. Anyways was also amazed that the Amertto stone sour was a generous amount. Never experience having a glass and cost was about the same as a little glass they usually serve it. I had ordered the steak burger and for the price and how much Burger you get is very good I did not order french fries however I did order their mushrooms and the way they prepared and cooked it was delicious. There was not too much bread and the mushrooms were not small at all in some restaurants when it comes to bar food. Their steak burger was also worth the money for how much Burger you got for $12. Fridays they have a fish fry and I will probably come here on Friday for lunch they either have it in Pollock or in COD and I plan to order both to compare the taste. They also have shrimp but I'm not a big fan of fried shrimp nowadays. Anyways four stars for this hidden gem up in the north of a small town like Waukegan cause I didn't think there was any good to dine in until I...
