Brenda and I were looking for a fish fry as we drove across the state to move our son into a new apartment at UW-La Crosse. We found Waupaca Woods Restaurant online and put it into our GPS. It's only two minutes off of Hwy 10. At first, we weren't sure because it's set back inside a sorta strip mall. But once we found the restaurant we were surprised to see how many people that were inside. It was 3/4 full and people were coming out. They seemed friendly enough so I asked them if this restaurant was a good find and they said, "The best!" Well, that set the tone. The hostess came over and greeted us and as we made our way to the table, we watched her greet others, give and get hugs, etc. We've been inside the restaurant for about 60 seconds and our initial impression is already very positive. We ordered a drink, salad, Haddock fish fry, and choice of potato for less than $20. I honestly think that was the best salad I've ever had in my life. We asked about the croutons, and of course, they're homemade. The fish was deep fried, huge portions, and delicious. I ordered french fries and Brenda ordered mashed potatoes with gravy. That bowl was so heavy, we couldn't finish it and I was helping! Anyway, as we were chatting, we shared how impressed we were with the service, food, and price and how we'll definitely be back. When Tara, our waitress, brought us some boxes and our bill, she surprised us with a complimentary cinnamon roll. We were absolutely full but couldn't help but want to taste it before leaving and it was delicious. We're definitely going to enjoy that in the morning with some coffee. I was so pleased with our experience, I took my phone out and started working on this review. Within two minutes, Tara comes back out with a box of chocolate cake. Maybe she knows how much college kids eat? Either way, we're grateful to have found this wonderful family restaurant. If you're in the area, do stop in. Let them know you read this review. I'm sure they'll appreciate...
Read moreWaited months to come back to a favorite restaurant for our fish fry. Was able to walk in and sit down. Waitress greeted us and ask if we'd like something to drink. Returning with our drinks she asked if we were ready to order which we did. She returned with our salads then a short time later our soup. Four or five other tables were seated and ordered food and got their complete orders while we sat waiting. After approximately 30 minutes I asked where or order was and her reply was oh yeah. She returned with to me was the lamest excuse, there was a mix up on the wheel. What she didn't realize was she opened her book and she had the order slip there. Our food arrived a short time later only to seem to be rushed. We were never asked if we wanted refills on our drinks. She did ask when I was paying the bill "how was your food once you got it". It was to me just ok. Not the way it's been in the past years of going there. The hard part is the restaurant was not even all that busy and we've been there when its been crazy and much much better service. The hard part is she didn't even offer a discount on the meal for the inconvenience. Looks like it might be a long time before I return if we return. We used go there because we liked the food service and...
Read moreDidn't say a word to us. We were waiting for a table. A girl cleaned a table with 3 chairs,(perfect for us), put a note on opposite side of table, where we couldn't read it, and never looked at us or said a word and walked away. My husband walked over to read it and it said, "4.0 a name and reserved, and a time." Another 4 people, at a table, left. A few minutes later, a young man came to clean the table, so our daughter asked him if it was reserved and he was kind enough to go ask and come back with an answer. We sat down and waited, for a menu or even someone to look at us.... mind you, there were at least 4 girls and 1 lady in green tshirt, whom we assumed was the manager.. not one looked at us or even said a word like, "seat yourself" or "we will be right with you".. We decided that perhaps we should go somewhere else.. I did finally get the attention of the manager as she was passing us and she stated that she would be with us soon.. My husband had decided, that we had waited long enough, especially since we were never even nodded to as being there..so we left. We didn't have time to wait much longer. Sadly we had been referred to that restaurant. We won't be back! We went to Culver's and had a delicious meal, with very...
