The Gumbo Hut — Restaurant in Waynesboro

We ordered from the Gumbo Hut for the first time tonight…homemade Louisiana style food…holy moly it did not disappoint! Pretty sure we ordered the whole menu….if you want super spicy and delicious - the gumbo Louisiana hot is the way to go…I’ll have it again when I’m ready to go into labor in few months😂 the variety of sauces were amazing with the fried okra, mushrooms and hush puppies 😍 the boys had burgers and I’m guessing it was good because they disappeared pretty quick. The owner was also fabulous. It felt like we were stepping into her home - she and the other young lady were so welcoming. She gave us some bagged chips to try - lowcountry kettle. Yummy! Ordered via Door Dash and the dasher stole my okra. So I sent my husband there to get some more (I really wanted some and good fried okra is hard to come by). She made a fresh batch for me and gave us two drinks - no charge, though I’d have paid again for it. And that okra was worth the extra effort to go pick it up - so amazingly delicious (even better than my mom’s)! The fried shrimp was also delicious and my husband devoured the bourbon burger. Had the gumbo (of course). Very delicious, home cooked style food. Would highly recommend. At the moment they don't have any indoor seating and are carry out only, and since it is home cooked expect to wait a while. It is totally worth it however. Only small complaint is that I wish the rice portion that comes with the meal was a little bigger (gumbo portion is good, came in what I think was a pint sized container full to the brim).
