I really love coming here. It's my favorite spot anytime of the week. Very chill place, always good music, and the staff is very friendly. Food is also delicious, especially the sautéed edamame! My personal favorite. Lately though have been having issues with the manager here. I've come twice with a couple of friends late on a weekend. When it got close to closing time, the manager would stop by the table to suggest we finish our meals quickly so that the staff could begin clean-up. Both times we were there this happened, and we weren't the only customers there. He would continuously stop by and urge us to finish, pay, and go. As a paying customer, this seems unacceptable to me. If a customer comes in, pays for their meal and drinks, and is being rushed to finish it just so someone can get home early, that's a real dent in the customer's experience. No one goes to a restaurant to be rushed to eat and leave, and I've never heard of a restaurant trying to make people leave because it's closing time. Most restaurants will wait for customers to finish no matter how long it takes and even sit customers who come in 5 minutes before closing. To do otherwise is a loss of money and bad for business. I've stayed away since these experiences with this particular manager. RESPONSE TO OWNER: I like how you stated there was incorrect statements that I mentioned when you were not present. First of all I respect all rules regarding Covid. We all had our masks on and had no complaints following the policy for that. Covid had nothing to do with the manager that kept rushing our dining on the patio, nor was Covid ever mentioned as an issue that evening. Also, I have never in my life had a manager at any restaurant rush me out during my dining so that I could leave by closing. Customers are paying for service! Common sense! Your tone makes it seem like we were there hours after closing and doing nothing and had the staff waiting, but that is completely untrue and was not the situation. We were there maybe 20 min after closing. Also, we had just ordered another bottle of Sake at 9:45pm, so yes, I expect to finish the drink I PAID FOR before I leave. Don't take orders and charge customers if there is NO TIME ALLOTTED to finish their dining! That is completely unacceptable, unprofessional and just plain tacky! Let me give you some advice for the future... the next time you rush a paying customer out, be sure to let them know in advance that you do not let customers finish dining, if its after closing time, especially if the customer came in at 9pm and you close at 10pm, as I believe there would be a good possibility the customer will choose not to dine there, if that was the case. FYI - the reason the manager's gave us for rushing us to leave was that they needed to put up the patio furniture so it wouldn't get stolen. I AM THE ONE who mentioned if would could finish our bottle inside, NOT the manager! Looks like there is a lack of communication between you and the manager. Also, there was two other customers on the patio and they overheard the entire conversation, and they also agreed with me and said that this has happened to them before while dining there and that they were glad that I addressed it because it was just so rude in the manner of getting them to leave . So, please get your facts straight before you decide to respond to a complaint regarding an incident at your place of business, especially being a business owner. I have spent hundreds of dollars at that restaurant and so has the company I was with that night, but I assure you we will never dine at your restaurant again and I'll be sure to let people know how unprofessional the business owner is at this restaurant and I will share your response today on social media. BTW, you have other complaints on Google reviews for the SAME reason....
Read moreMan, what happened? Masa used to be one of the best restaurants in town, but after my experience yesterday I won't be returning. I've been coming here for years, and it's so disappointing that not only their service, but the quality of the food has gotten awful. I sat at the sushi bar, the owner took my drink order. The restaurant was pretty dead, so there was only one waitress. She was busy, so I understood waiting a little bit to order. She stopped by and said someone would be taking my order shortly. She leaves, a new server comes in, and her and the owner are just chillin and talking. At this point I've been here for 15-20mins, and im the only patron left. I've finished my drink, I finally have to say "Can I order please?" The server visibly annoyed takes my order. She brings me a beer foaming and making a big mess. She comes back later and gives me napkins to clean it up myself. She asks me if I had already paid out with the other girl, I said no. I didn't hold it against her, I wasn't rude, I figured she didn't know I hadn't been taken care of- but the owner was right there. He knew I hadn't been served anything but the beer he handed me. She starts putting down my food, and instantly I'm happy... until I take a bite. I've ordered the same rolls for years, and they have never been anything but perfection. These rolls were awful, the fish was so old and gross. Raw tuna is not fishy tasting or smelling, unless it's gone bad. I tried a couple pieces of each, but couldn't eat them. The waitress and owner made no attempt to see what the problem was. I paid, and tipped (because I'm not a monster) and went to the bathroom. It stunk so bad in there like backed up sewage and rotting garbage. I've returned after fruit flies, I've returned after not being served for 30 minutes, but I will never be coming back after this. It's just a shame that such a staple in the community has...
Read moreIt's a nice looking place. A bit cramped though. But from the looks of it, seems it can fit quite a lot of ppl. The interior is quite nice and there's some private areas for families or small groups. A bar is centered in the back with lots of lucky Asian decor. I went around 12 and it wasn't busy.
Now, I'm very picky about my Japanese food. I grew up in Yokosuka and Okinawa (11 years) so I have a very good idea of how the food should be. The menu does have some non-Japanese food as it's a fusion restaurant. So expect some items to not be Japanese.
I ordered the boa boa (the white steamed bun with pork belly) I believe it is Chinese. Not the best I've had but it tasted almost exactly like BACON and anything that tastes like bacon is great in my book. The best is from jinya. But if your nervous about trying this particular item and want it to tast like something familiar this one is your best bet
For my main entree I ordered my favorite Japanese dish ever which is katsudon! The presentation was quite nice! Arrived piping hot and quite a big portion too! But there wasn't enough broth! It had enough to pour over the top but not enough to even color the rice. It felt quite dry. The taste was good but I can actually make it better...
I also had a couple appetizers which are not pictured but they were delicious!!!! Order this Tuna tartar and add a bit of soy sauce and it's perfect! Highly recommend that!!!!
In all it's a nice place with good food. It's pretty slow around lunch time and I can in there a lil after 12. The staff was pretty nice and the atmosphere was quite. If I order the katsudon again I'll have to see if they can add extra broth! I feel it's a safe choice kind of place. I do want to give it a 4 star but I'm more of a 3.5. I'll edit my review after I...
