Outrageously priced with small portions when it comes to dim sum. Ramen and pho was what you’d expect. Soup dumplings were teeny tiny and not much to them (5 half bite sizes for 10 bucks? what? Go to any authentic Chinese dim sum restaurant and get the same but double the size each dumpling for 5 bucks, seriously) Bao was small and meat inside even smaller. The two employees I interacted with seemed annoyed by me (I had one question about an item and the patronizing from him was palpable. I also offered to change an item choice to avoid what she said would be a longer wait but the employee seemed upset and basically told me to sit back down as it was already made. That’s what I get for being flexible. I get it though, customers changing their mind even if it’s meant to be in a considerate way is a pain but I could do without the chuckle and overt condescending tone) Ultimately they were accommodating but I felt that rude attitude in my bones because from my experience that’s how Chinese restauranteurs normally are, just wasn’t expecting it in Wenatchee among fellow Chinese. I’m a Thai/Chinese immigrant, grew up eating dim sum living in Thailand, then in various other locations all along the west coast, always near a Chinatown and all of which would never charge this much for dim sum and all of which had better flavor and portions. Go to Seattle international district for better dim sum. This establishment is thriving off the fact that there’s nothing like them here. It’s good if you don’t know but disappointing if you do. Got 4 lunch specials, one order of soup dumplings, two noodle bowls, two sodas, 3 boba drinks and spent 120 bucks. First and...
Read moreOk so we just found out about this place on a random article. We seen it opened recently (4.18) and went to try it today (4.23). We were greeted a few times and then looked at the menu. We figured out what to get and went to the register to order. We were greeted by the friendly woman at the register and she was so bubbly and made us laugh. She told us her husband worked until 6am prepping the days food and then continued to work on the line as a cook. Her story made us feel good that we came here. The food was packaged nicely. We got two Japanese ramen and one hot dumpling bowl. I tried both to do the review and I ate all the hot dumplings to myself. I love the spiciness of Sichuan pepper sauce. I loved it. The ramens were for my boyfriend and my 13 year old son and they enjoyed their meals. My family approved!
Only suggestions I have is better bags for Togo orders as the hot bowls burned through my bag and began burning my leg and stomach and advertise more. I read some reviews and they were negative for the wait and the mistakes of losing tickets. We didn't experience this and I know things like that are hard as I had opened a bar with a large company before and things aren't always smooth within...
Read moreGot a chance to try this place out it's very first afternoon open and it's become a favorite. The Wenatchee Valley has really needed a good, high quality dim sum restaurant and Steam Panda is exactly what we needed. The steamed pork bao, soup dumplings and pork and shrimp shumai are easily as good as anything you could get in Seattle.
The people who run the place are beyond friendly, greeting you with gushing enthusiasm, though you can tell they're still working out their timing which can sometimes result in some minor wait times.
The decor hasn't changed much from back when the restaurant was a pizza parlor a couple of months ago, or a thai restaurant before that, but it's clean, in good repair and the ambiance still works well as a dim sum place, mostly marked by a mural on one wall recounting the history of the restaurant with a number of dumpling-headed anime style cartoon characters.
So yeah, definitely a favorite restaurant. They still have a bit of growing to do to find their final form, but even as is they're one of the best in the valley. Check them out when you...
