I thought back & fourth about writing this review. The food is mostly good when done properly. I don’t think the Kumori staff can appreciate that this is the only legitimate restaurant where you can get fresh sushi rolls (as it is meant to be fresh) unless you are willing to make a long drive to either McAllen or Harlingen. The few times I go in which is rare the staff seems to be on the spectrum, I won’t repeat what many other 1 star reviewers have already said. As of late I order for take out, when I make a call it takes almost forever to get someone to answer. When I do I have to be loud & firm so they can get my order correct which is a bit of a hassle.
I love the gyoza dumplings but the prices I pay for the 5 small pieces especially when I order x2 are outrageous! You to be upfront how you want them cooked I asked for them steamed but they occasionally fry them which I do not like, when I get them to go they never seasoned them with green onions or chili powder unless you tell them seems like you only get that when you dine in. Funny how I can go to dollar general & pay $6 for 30+ pieces of frozen mini dumplings but yet for that same amount I get cheated by Kumoris dumplings.
I hate to keep bringing up pricing. Yesterday sin was the one that snapped me… I had sent a friend of mine to pick up an order on my behalf what should have been a $25 tops order ended up being over $30 one kanki roll & one fire cracker roll… Yes I added 2 more ingredients but it shouldn’t have piled up the way it did. For that amount I expect to have all my sides items. I had asked the girl over the phone to include 2 cups of ginger 1 cup of wasabi & 2 cups of spicy mayo. When I sent my friend I told him to make sure they included the sides. When he got back he assured me they told him that all the sauces where there. When I untied the bag I only had one full cup of ginger slices the other cup had one small piece & they didn’t pack my 2 spicy mayo 😡
Going back to place is like being in a toxic relationship. After reading other people review complaints I’m glad to know I am not the only one who feels this way about the service that this restaurant provides. When is there going to be some real change & action to address these concerns? Because from I have seen from these copy & paste responses from Kumori service teams nothing is actually being done to do better because they are still making the same mistakes. At this point I am hoping that a new entrepreneur will join in on the Japanese food industry within the Donna/ Weslaco area & give them some legitimate competition in service &...
Read moreThere were only two others groups of people in the restaurant when I came in. I asked if the had japanese whisky the waiter says yes. Then about ten minutes later the bar tender came and asked what did I want. I told him I asked for japanese whisky? He look bewildered so I walk with him to his bar and told him no you don't sale it. So I go back to my table as more and more folks come in. I'm still waiting on someone to take my order. So after being there for like 30 minutes looking around, like really no one's going to take my order, then a lady asked had anyone taken your order I'm like no. So I asked her about the Sashimi. On the menu it said mixed what did that mean. She said that you can do half and half. So I told her I like sake salmon and tuna. So 15 minutes go by then the original guy comes by and says did anyone take your order. I said umm yeah your co worker, then 15 or so minutes later he comes back not with my food but with "what did you order sir?" In my head I was losing it because all those new folks that came in after me were eating while all I had was my drink that wasn't japanese whisky. So I told him what I told the lady. He says oh that's not what mix means on the menu and he explains what it means so I say well just give me the two that I ordered. So after waiting and waiting I asked where is the raw fish at I mean do you have to catch it first? So they finally being it out to me. Sake Salmon was farm fish and it was all in the flavor which is not a good flavor if you eat sashimi and so was the tuna 😔. So if you want some good sashimi I would not recommend going there. If you want good service I would not recommend going there. If you want the folks who work at the restaurant to know their menu for go there. This was very bad experience especially when I had a taste for sushi type meal. Very bad service and nasty food and very poor presentation of the food. Because if you look on the menu it does not look the same in person. Oh and I had to asked for chop sticks and ginger and some soy. So this is...
Read moreTook my boyfriend to Kumori Weslaco for his first time. Took a while to be seated which was understandable. Once seated, we ordered drinks and asked for more time to look at the menu. After quite some time our waiter (a shift manager I believe since he had a different colored shirt) hadn't come back yet. We signaled to him to let him know we were ready to order. He looked straight at us and nodded but never came by our table. After waiting a while longer we flagged down a different server and gave her our order. Our original waiter brought our food out and apologized for not coming by when we signaled to him because he was "busy" even though he had just been standing behind the bar. The entire time we were there not once did he stop by our table. We had to keep flagging down other waiters for refills. When we were ready to pay again we signaled our original waiter and again he looked straight at us and nodded but never came by. He waited about 10 minutes for a different waiter to clock in to send that waiter to bring us our ticket. The place was not busy at all. There were about four tables occupied at most. There was really no excuse for him to not want to serve us. We were never rude to him. The only thing I can think of is that my boyfriend only speaks Spanish and maybe because of that he looked down on us and didn't want to serve us. I don't know. I really liked Kumori and had been there plenty of times so I really wanted my boyfriend to like it but thanks to his first experience there it doesn't look like we'll ever...
