First of all, I had joked that I was going to eat Mexican food in Florida and they were not going to allow me back in the state of Texas after that. I was at a team dinner. I had never been to this place before and was excited to check it out. They have sitting in a party room, surrounded by bottles of liquor. The young lady who was our service did her very best to try and accommodate our large party. I was not very hungry at all and wanted to order tacos a la carte. I only wanted one taco, maybe two. I was told they did not do "a la carte". Ok, no problem. I opted for the 3 taco plate. The young server asked, "What kind of tacos do you want?" I asked if I could get 3 different ones. No. You had to get 3 of all the same. What? I can order these at other places without a problem. She then asks, "Corn or Flour"? I ask if their flour tortillas were homemade. She responds, "No." No? How hard it is to have a comal with someone making fresh tortillas? The corn were homage, so I opt for those.
When the food comes out, the presentation was fantastic. It goes downhill from there. The beans had ZERO flavor. I expected more from the rice. It was not even Mexican rice. It was more "yellow" rice. The Pastor was good. The corn tortillas were tiny. Although they were homemade, they tasted very bland like someone forgot to add extra ingredients. I am not sure what was going on with the salsa with big chunks of white onion. Come on, really? It was "meh". I expected a tad bit more spice.
I had ordered a few drinks. I ordered a Mexican Martini. Ironically, they had to ask how to make it. No biggie. What is up with the Tequila Sunrise? It should have had more Orange Juice. Not sure what they were trying to go for. I give them a "A" for at least attempting to make it.
Overall, the atmosphere was fair. It was very loud and noisy. It made it hard to have conversations. We did shut the door a few times, but then the room got hot. Azteca D'Oro you made a good attempt, but was not impressed. Perhaps you should offer folks the option to get things a la carte. I know that can be just as expensive as getting a plate. How about allowing me the option of refried, charro or black beans? Whatever recipe you are using for the beans and rice, stop. They are gross and bring a Tortilla maker in. You will...
Read moreI really want to like this place because it’s close to home and the foods decent. But the service is horrible. The first time we came, everything was fine, the waitress was a little slow and not really friendly, but the food was good. We decided to do takeout the next time, my meat was undercooked. Second time we did takeout, my husband and I both got fajitas, but they only gave us tortillas and toppings for one set of fajitas. The third time we did takeout, we only received tortillas and no toppings at all. I guess that’s also on us for not checking the bags before we left. Then we decide, maybe the takeout isn’t really structured, so let’s go back to eat at the actual restaurant the next time… so tonight we were seated and got chips and salsa immediately, but we also wanted queso. However, it took 15-20 minutes for a waiter to even show up. We placed appetizer, drinks and entree orders all at the same time, realizing how slow they are, plus we had plenty of time to decide what we wanted. Queso came immediately. However drinks sat at the bar for awhile. Husband wanted coffee as well as a water with lemon. Waiter brought him espresso and plain water. He asked again for lemons, the waiter brought him limes. My wine glass had food in it, so I never took a sip, I would’ve asked for another drink but the waiter never came back. We were at this restaurant for almost an hour, still didn’t get our food and the waiter never returned. As we were speaking to the manager, the food came out, but by that time, I was so turned off by this place, I didn’t want to eat anymore, so we left. I’ve given this place 5 chances, and can’t say I had one single good experience, so I am unsure if I will take the managers offer to give them another chance. It’s unfortunate because I really do want to...
