Honestly its about a 3.5 stars. (Food: 4 stars Service: 2.7 stars-less than average) This review is our own experience here. Went this past week, girlfriend and I loved it years back and wanted to try it again. Place was full which is good to see. Completely understand that they may be short staffed so not a big deal to wait to be seated. We were and our waitress came over and asked what we wanted to drink, without seeing a beverage list. I asked for one and she seemed turned off that I would ask. We ordered a bottle of wine when she came back, as it seemed it was a hassle so I looked on line while she went to get it. We ordered the garlic bread, deep fried zucchini strips and a large pizza. The garlic bread is so good, recommended every time. The Zucchini strips were 1 of 3 things available on the appetizers menu, they didn't have anything else. This is at 6:30 pm. The zucchini strips where breaded and crispy, and came with a marinara sauce for dipping. Not bad at all and would get again if the menu is limited. In this time our baskets, from the 2 appetizers were sitting on the end of the table stacked for the server and she walked by numerous times not taking them. Our wine and waters where almost empty when the pizza arrived. The pizza was cooked well and we liked it but, never did the server come check on us to see how any of the food was. Again we put the empty bottle of wine at the end of the table and we did want another one but she ignored it. We both decided if there was no interest in checking on our food or drinks, we might as well wrap it up and go. Thank you waitress for saving us $25 on another bottle. I'm sure the owners appreciate not having customers spend more. When she came through again we got our check and while we were leaving a tip she stood and waited for us to do so at the table. I feel this is in bad taste as a server. As I described above of the experience, the food was good but the service was not. I do like to leave 20% or more and understand that tips can go to the cooks, bartenders, etc. as well but, I just personally feel the service was sub par from the waitress. I did tip 20% because I do want to continue to go there, so I'll chalk this up to maybe she was having a bad day but it seemed like all the waitress seemed annoyed. We will give it another shot. UPDATE: so they said to email them about the issues, I did, guess who hasn't heard anything back? Seems like these are generic...
Read moreI love the cozy retro 70s decor and feel. Reminds me of when my parents took me to Dick's Pizza in West Bend. :) We hadn't been to Mama Mia in many years, but the garlic bread last time I had it was permanently etched on my mind and mouth. The garlic bread we had the other night when we were there was disappointing. There was lots of butter and oil, but it's like they dumped it on the bread because much of that butter and oil was just laying in the waxed paper in the bottom of the basket. When I had Mama Mia garlic bread from the Port Washington location around 2012 I think ...RIP :( ...the butter and oil were saturated throughout the entire thickness of the bread, ALL the way through to the center, AND YET...the bread still had some texture and crunch to it. It wasn't just a soggy sponge texture. THAT is how Mama Mia garlic bread is supposed to be. Saturated through and through, but still with some crunch and some texture. The bread we had the other day was "good" but not amazing like Mama Mia is famous for. It's like it was the right bread and the right butter and oil and seasonings, but it's like they didn't let the bread sit and soak up the goodness to get deep inside. And when I asked the waitress, who overall was reasonably nice, if she would bring us a little cup of additional butter/oil, she didn't hesitate to do it, but she sort of reacted as if she couldn't understand why I would want it. I'll tell you why Ms., it's because your bread was SUB-STANDARD! Make EVERY order worthy of it's world-famous reputation, and then you won't have to go back for more butter! Anyway, I was actually blown away at how amazingly good the PIZZA was! I'm definitely getting a sausage, onion, and mushroom pizza again next time I'm there. And the crust was excellent. It was technically a "thin crust", but it wasn't paper thin, it simply wasn't thick. And it wasn't thin and dry like a cracker, it was thin but with just the right amount of crunch, and the right amount of structural support to hold up the goodness on top, and it wasn't dry. The final disappointment was a pretty high price overall. I wanted to give Mama Mia 5 stars, but you know what? If you're going to charge big prices, you better come with that world famous garlic bread EVERY time!! Lackluster bread, only "okay" service, and high price reduces my rating to 3 stars this time. If we go back I'll definitely update this if that trip is...
Read moreI’ve been here more times than I can count. In fact, the very first restaurant I was in was the mama Mia’s on 27th and Silver spring (which is gone now). It was nov 23rd 1960. I was five days old and my mom had to have a Mama Mia pizza and garlic bread. I know you don’t believe me but I remember it. I’ve of course switched to this location and it has never disappointed me. The EBA is my favorite pizza in the whole world. (EBA means pizza with everything but anchovies and then I add anchovies anyway) Have to have the antipasto salad (extra sausage and cheese) and extra garlic bread. Anyone that has anything bad to say about these, obliviously is unqualified to judge what is good food. Their marinara is classic Italian and all there Italian entrees are superior to for example, Olive Garden or Bucco or any other chain Italian place I’ve ever tried. 70 years of serving west allis and Milwaukee is proof they’re doing something right. My brother lives in northern MN and I live in southern IN. We will meet in Brookfield and stay at the Mariott just so we can go to mama Mia’s for every meal for the weekend. I brought my 89 year old mother-in-law one time and now, whenever my wife and I go to see her in Watertown WI, she practically begs us to stop and get takeout. If we don’t, in the next few days, while we’re visiting, she’ll hand me a wad of money and send me to get it for everyone. After all that, if you aren’t convinced you need to eat here at least once, you probably just...
