I've been going here for a little over a year and a half, and thought I had already written a review about it. They changed ownership about 5 months ago. The original flavor was good, but after changing ownership, the flavors have more depth and character to them.
The noodle dishes, such as pad Kee mow and pad Thai now have a meaty sweetness, thanks to their recipe change. The sushi flavors come out a little more pronounced, again, thanks to them adding some elements to the rice, and apparently buying higher quality fish. The curries also have a new level of depth, I'm not sure what changed there.
The staff told me that they kept all of the original recipes, just added a little something to all of their dishes to help with the flavors. It certainly helped, they are a very good restaurant which I have enjoyed for lunch.
Lunch portions are reasonable, as are the prices. You can always get a dinner portion, for a few more dollars, and the difference is not small.
The spice levels are reasonable. With a range of one to five, you can have practically no spice, up to a certain heat that has you sweating a little by the time you finish your meal. I wouldn't be mad if they created a couple more levels for those days where you just want a nice kick. Given that traditional Thai food can be surprisingly hot, I imagine some people are wanting more in their spice levels. I'm fine sticking with a four or five.
This place is definitely worth a shot,...
Read moreUpdate: The restaurant is now under new management. The food is fresh, delicious and the portion is very generous. We have visited 3 times since the new management took over. The first time we had Panang curry, sushi, and Crazy Tofu. The second time we had Pad Kee Mao, Chili Duck, and Udon Pad Thai, which is one of the new items in the menu. Last week we had Tom Yum soup, Pad Kra Pao and Thai Spicy.
One of my friends is Gluten free and the owner was very accommodating! We were very happy with the service and the food.
The new owner has redecorated, including the addition of new floor, which makes the place look brighter and bigger. You will not be disappointed in the taste and the quality of the food.
Overall...The food was delicious, the ambiance was great and the service was excellent. All the people I went with loved the food too. Will definitely go back and would rate this 10...
Read moreI have been to Udon twice now and I absolutely love the food and atmosphere. It is cozy and quaint-- nicely decorated with a few tables for dine in. The food is delicious! My favorite is the pad see ew with tofu. My daughter loved the futomaki roll. I highly recommend the mango sticky rice for dessert. The portions are very generous and you can tell a lot of care goes into the preparation. The staff is very kind and helpful. Tonight I came in with my young kids and they noticed my daughter liked the pickled ginger that came with her sushi, so they brought her more without us asking. She was very excited and I was very touched by the extra thoughtfulness. This is a shop that clearly has a lot of heart and has wonderful food. We will be back the next time we are in...
