My friend and I went here this past Thursday for dinner and drinks, and it wasn't that crowded at all - imagine it could be a different story on the weekend. Highly recommend coming here if you like Southern / New American cuisine with a twist in a nice, relaxing atmosphere. There was a picture of Conway Twitty above the bar and a candle on each table added to the homey ambiance. The jazz band started to play halfway through our dinner. We each ordered a cocktail which was amazing (hard peach iced tea), then I got the corn chowder as an appetizer. Not trying to sound melodramatic but it was probably the best soup I've ever eaten in my life! 😋 My friend got the shrimp deviled eggs and roasted shishito peppers with lemon aioli which she shared with me... I'd never had either deviled eggs with shrimp before nor those kind of peppers, but both were delicious! Then for our main course she got the pork belly and I got the baked mac and cheese with bacon jam. There were so many other entrees that made it hard to choose... would've loved to try their grits, maybe next time! I appreciated that the food, though homestyle "comfort food," was updated and more flavorful, with different seasonings and dressings than you would expect, to liven up a somewhat boring classic like mac and cheese to make it more interesting. The bacon jam added a sweetness that was unexpected but married well with the cheesiness. I think my friend was also impressed, as she said she had had pork belly often growing up but not like this! The chef / cooks clearly know what they're doing here. The portions here aren't large - they clearly put the emphasis on quality over quantity. Jonny, our server, was very attentive and checked in with us numerous times to make sure we were enjoying our food and drinks. The staff here is very knowledgeable on the menu, as made obvious by Jonny's suggestions to us about what to order. My friend got dessert, the pear with sweet potato ice cream, but I was truly stuffed at this point and couldn't eat any more. But I will definitely be back the next time I'm...
Read moreI used to work at this establishment. I went back today to enjoy my favorite menu, their brunch. Overall, I was so disappointed and upset. I had eggs Benedict, and my friend got a side of pork roll. Well, they were out of pork roll. They didn’t inform us until 15-20 minutes after our order was taken, which means they waited that long to communicate with the kitchen. So that wasn’t great customer service.
When the food came out, we were surprised. They had a “country ham” on the menu, which my friend ordered. She is struggling with dietary restrictions while trying to lose weight, and has to follow a Keto diet. We got the country ham without toast, to accommodate her. They sent out a plate of what looked like prosciutto with condiments and peppers-I cannot make this up. Thin sliced prosciutto. Okay look, it’s prosciutto. It was good. My friend seemed to enjoy it. BUT it was definitely not what she expected. It was also a really small portion too for $15! I could get a pound at the grocery store. What a waste of money. My other friend got a biscuit, with butter and jam. The jam was homemade, so the flavor was excellent. But the consistency was watery. It needs to be thicker.
The Bloody Mary and dessert cocktails we ordered were great. The coffee cocktail was not the best, but not the worst. I think it’s the quality of the coffee this restaurant uses. The highlight of the meal was that the bartender exceeded most of my expectations. So kudos to you Alex.
Just a weird experience overall. I’m very sad for slow hand. I’ve heard subpar things about the new manager, and it seems they were correct. She is struggling to manage. Sounds like she needs further support. Sad, because this used to be such a unique, exclusive establishment. It’s a shame too because I love the one owner, Craig. I was surprised he is in the kitchen, and these kind of discrepancies with the food were occurring. I hope they are able to recover. I will continue to try coming back, but not with the same regularity I did the past few years. Overall,...
Read moreStopped in on NYE for a dinner reservation at 5:15. The bar was full, the seats were about half taken. Our server Cameron(sp ?) was fantastic. She was very nice, friendly and happy to help us through the menu options. However, we could barely hear her over the music. It was insanely loud for a place that is not a night club. At one point, she even said, why is it so loud? I'm not hard of hearing but this definitely takes away from the experience. I've been here multiple times and it was never like this. Ok, aside from that , the drinks and food are always good. I gotta say, $8 for a non-alcoholic beverage is a bit steep but hey, novelty of it I guess. So drinks: Old Fashioned, Margarita w/ Tajin Rim and Pom Pilot. All well received! Food: food was slow. We were told it was because they were busy but we've seen it busier. We ordered most of the shared plates as usual along with some entrees. Hush Puppies: amazing. Pimento Dip: keep it coming. Salmon Tartine: hit of the night. Fried Fingerling Potatoes: get em. So good. Pork Belly: was a bit of a miss this time in flavor which I definitely thought strange for something that is essentially fat. Scottish Salmon: no complaints from the consumer. Fried Chickens: tried both; Nashville Hot and Original. My original was tinged with some Nashville Hot but it wasn't bad. I'm not a spicy fan. However, the Nashville Hot went over very well after it was basically thrown at us by another waitress, not Cameron. The plate barely made it on the table as she essentially pushed all other plates to the right and sped off. Attempted to get her attention but no such luck. So overall it was good. Few suggestions: chat with the rude waitress who was working with Cameron on NYE and lower the music. Hope to...
