Chicago | Is This Yelp 5-Star Korean Restaurant Worth the Hype?

This place was exceptional! We ordered the jjambong and KFC. As a Korean, jjambong is one of my favorite dishes, and this place nailed it. The soup had a perfect combination of flavors with pork and shrimp, and the abundance of veggies made it even better. Plus, the noodles were freshly cooked, adding to the overall experience. The KFC was also fantastic; it tasted just like what we have in Korea! It had a delightful spiciness balanced with a delicious sweet flavor from the gochujang sauce—a flavor reminiscent of my childhood. The atmosphere was very chill, and the restaurant was bustling with people since it's Friday. Everyone was respectful of each other's time and space, enhancing our dining experience. Overall, we enjoyed the food and the ambiance of this place.

Bobijoa offers some delicious appetizers—we enjoyed the KFC, bobijoa fries, and hotteok. However, the yukejeong was disappointing—it was very under-seasoned. The other reason I’m giving three stars is the service. We went there on a Friday night and the place was busy with only one waiting staff. The young lady tried her best, but she asked me to take the hot stone bowl myself from the serving tray, because no one else was there to help her. I didn’t mind it, but it could become a liability for the restaurant if a customer got burnt by the hot bowl.

This was the worst experience ever and I am very weary of not eating at new gentrifying restaurants in Pilsen since I grew up here all my life. But I wanted to eat something new so I gave it a try. Food was absolutely terrible. There was mold on my shrimp in the Jjampong. Not only that, but I only got 3 shrimps and only one other piece of another meat, which I think was not worth buying this. On top of that, the noodles, I am so serious they tasted like regular pasta noodles and I was so upset at this. Dumplings were also not good. Terrible place and great reminder that when you go to Pilsen, to support local restaurants that are actually from Pilsen and of the culture, and that have had their establishments...

Tried this place for the very first time today (takeout). My boyfriend and I ordered the sweet and spicy wings, kimchi cheese fries, and Yukejang. And wow! Everything was delicious. The wings and fries are a must try if you plan to visit. Service was fast and the woman who owned the shop was nice and explained to me what the different options were and made recommendations to my preferences. It’s in Pilsen, right around the corner from us. We’re so happy to have found this little gem in the neighborhood. Would highly recommend and we’re definitely going back to try all the other items...
