I went out to the first Logan square farmers market on Mother’s Day. Thought picking up croissants sounded good, so I ordered 5. 3 almond and 2 chocolate chip cookie. I was pretty shocked when the total was $48. Apparently I even owed an extra dollar because I supposedly miscounted. I walked away with my friend and told her the price and we both wondered if that’s wrong. The older man waiting on me didn’t use a calculator or anything and I thought well that’s weird math that he knew $9.60 multiplied by 5 would equal $48 and I thought that was way too high for one croissant. I went back to check the price and he said “well which one?” Then proceeded to only tell me the price of the almond ($8). I told him I believe he overcharged me, to which he then asked, “well did you eat one?” Mind you this was about 1 minute 30 seconds after walking away. I said no I didn’t and I’d like my money back that I was overcharged. I left feeling extremely unsettled and annoyed they have no prices listed and not to mention, I walked past the bakery who sells the same items for at least $2 cheaper. I sent an email from the contact forum on their website the same day, may 12. All I wanted was clarification on the prices at the farmers market and I suggested they have them posted for not only the customers but also for the employees who seem confused and then defensive if you question them. Still waiting on a response so thought maybe a review would be better. Your items are good but based on the treatment from the market to zero response via email, I can say you’re overpriced and I can get other lovely bakery items from a business that cares about their integrity. I hope this review is seen by other people who shop at the market. Other croissants that day were being sold for $4 and were probably just as good.
Edit: Is your response to showcase you accusing me of not sending an email or that your online system for contacting with with issues is a system that doesn’t work? I would need nothing in return, I wouldn’t ever go into your business...

I’ve recently been to Paris. The atmosphere at most cafes there is somewhat different from La Boulangerie, in that most are not hidden away from the street, but rather are so close to the street you often feel like you might get hit by a car. Honestly, I’m not sure which I prefer. However, without a shadow of a doubt, I am 100% certain that La Boulangerie’s croissants are as good if not better than the croissants I ate while in Paris. And I ate way, way too many croissants while there. Way too many.
Differences in atmosphere aside, La Boulangerie is a genuinely Parisian experience without all the secondhand smoke.

My absolute favorite cafe to sit down for coffee and a pastry. The patio is set back from the street and designed in such a way it’s easy to forget you’re sitting in the middle of one of Chicago’s busiest neighborhoods. The city just disappears and I swear it’s almost quiet. Peaceful really. And the croissants?? Oh my. Fresh every time I come in and positively the best I’ve ever had. My kid can’t get enough of them either. 17mos old and she knows. She knows. So buttery. So flakey. So delicious. I’m very happy this place made it through the nonsense they dealt with being in the same building as New Wave. They’re way...
Read moreThis review comes after a few mixed experiences. First, when I discovered they use cheap deli ham on the Parisian, I asked for the Bayonne Ham substitution, as that is how I've always had it in France. However, after purchasing it this way a few times over the course of weeks, they suddenly told me that it was a "dollar upcharge". When I asked if this was a new policy, the counter girl just stared at me, said "let me check" and then made me wait over five minutes while she whispered about me to another counter girl while waiting on her manager.
Another time I ordered a different sandwich, and it was suppose to have "mixed greens" but came with spinach. It was horrible. They told me they ran out of mixed greens afterward when I complained that I was basically eating a pile of raw spinach that overshadowed the rest of the sandwich.
Lastly, the one time I ordered a croissant, it was hard and stale.
Each thing can be dismissed on it's own, but after piling up, I was compelled to write this. Every other review gushes about how this is the best in the city, which isn't true. It's just the only thing Logan Square has to offer and is hit or miss. It also seems like they may have raised the prices on...
