I have had my eye on this location for some time now, maybe a couple years or so, but the opportunaty or desire for Chinese food hits me only relatively infrequently, and Mon Lung is a bit of a walk from where I live, I decided today was the day, I wanted some Chinese cuisine, or rather Chinanese American cuisine, the origins of the dish I was craving is somewhat disputed. In any case, they currently only offer take out (order in restaurant and wait and take), pick up (order by phone or online, and pick up food) and Delivery (order by phone or online and food comes to you), given the current state of things can't say I blame them. There is plexiglass shield if you are doing take out or pick up. The staff was friendly, can't say helpful as I knew what I wanted and I knew they had it, but I am sure they would have been if I needed help in deciding or additional information. I got my standard fare for testing out a new Chinese restaurant to me of Beef Chop Suey and a couple of egg rolls. I get this because it was the first actual Chinese Dish I actually bought with my own money back about 26 or so years ago, and I have fond memories of that dish, though some of that may have to do with how much MSG was in use back then. I have come to accept all the different combination of ingrediants that can go in the dish, and that no two restaurant use the exact same list of ingrediants. The chop suey came with plenty of bean sprouts, some mushrooms, little cabbage, some celery, and bamboo shoots, and off course beef in this case, in a light savory enhancing sauce. The only addition that I would have found to make the dish better would be the addition of somehthing with a little crunch to it, say like water chestnuts, though this isn't a deal breaker. There was enough beef in the dish to make it's price point worthwhile, the dish itself was tasty, everything was cooked to perfection. I would rate the dish at somewhere between 7.5 to 8 with my memory of my first sampling of chop suey. The egg rolls were not bad, but could have been a little better in my opinion, all in all, I found the meal pleasant and enjoyable and I do plan on revisiting their restaurant again in the near future.

Dine-in is OPEN!!! And Lane is giving it his best. Food was just as I remember it from 1993-2020: savory, delectably spicy, and delicious. Service was fantastic. There is no Chinese food like here. If Lane listens to constructive feedback and makes those legitimate tweaks that respectful low-star eaters have made, Mon Lung will be THE BEST CHINESE CUISINE RESTAURANT IN CHICAGO. They are very, very busy, so cut them some slack. They are only human like you and me. Don’t walk in here with an attitude and demanding. Running a business like he is, is tough. Imagine having to put on a smile for 300 people in and out every day. Have some compassion, but also do yourself a favor and give them another chance. You won’t be disappointed.

Tried this Chinese restaurant recently and ordered the Broccoli Beef and Kung Pao Chicken. Both were flavorful, but the Broccoli Beef stood out, it had a great tender beef and broccoli in a savory sauce. The Kung Pao Chicken was fine, though not as memorable. We went during lunch and got their lunch special, which is a solid deal. It includes your entrée, fried rice, and one big egg roll, definitely enough to fill you up. The inside of the restaurant is quite small with limited seating, so it seems like most people opt for takeout. Not the place for a dine-in experience, but a good option if you’re looking for a quick and satisfying Chinese takeout meal.

The authentic and tasty dishes from Mon Lung have long become a staple that represents great food in Chicago. The food is excellent. They are intuitive of our dietary needs making available delicious gluten free options. As for the atmosphere; it’s all love. Here you are welcomed into a quaint home, their home to be exact. You’re warmly invited inside and served amazing authentic Chinese cuisine. It’s hard to decide if the food or the service is better. My tummy wants to say food but my heart says it's the people. When I’m there I feel as if I’ve chatted with my mom, dad, beautiful sisters and extremely cool brother (非常酷很帅). Dad is a little quiet, mom always compliments my dress, my sisters love tea and don’t tease me when I dress in traditional hanfu. My brother was the first person to welcome me long ago and has always been so warm and laid back. He’s knowledgeable about the city and has the best recommendations, even for other restaurants. Yes he tells me where to go eat! Why would he do that? Very simple, he knows I’ll be back for their awesome food, and family atmosphere. No need to travel to China town, for it is here you’ll experience not only the taste China has to offer, but the beautiful people and their passion. The love that goes into each dish and the warmth of each family member as they welcome you into their home will keep you coming back. 谢谢 我的 家人. 你们 都 最好的....

If I could give this review a negative minus 5 rating, I would. I have been a regular take out order customer for the last 3 years owing to Mon Lung’s close proximity to my residence. I always order carry out, & I ordered cashew chicken twice recently, 1st time I got peanuts in my order, 2nd time I called my order in, I mentioned this to Lane, the owner, he indicated they always have cashews. But when I got this 2nd order home, not only were there no nuts whatsoever, there was not one cashew. When I became skeptical about my favorite, cashew chicken, I decided to change my order this time to Moo Shu Pork, & when I went to pick up this order, I told the owner, Lane about these latest order mistakes, expecting some restitution. His response was the worst I have ever heard from a business, quote: “it’s just cashews, there are more important things to be concerned about!” How’s that for arrogance! I have never heard that from a business when a concerned customer mentions their dissatisfaction. There was no apology, nor any offer to make it right, free order next time, etc. This guy & his restaurant, need to learn the basics of customer service, 101. Appalling reaction to unfulfilled order! Never again will I return, as there are plenty of Chinese cuisine restaurants in Chicago to choose from. Get a clue, Lane, you need to learn the meaning of...
