My family (two adults, 13yo, 13yo, 8 yo) went to see a preview of Sponge Bob the Musical on 6/24. This show is marketed to kids and adults, but this is definitely not a kid friendly show. Now. I will start off saying, I think my husband and I would have enjoyed the show had we known it was an adult show. We were however bothered that there was no mention of the provocative dancing and costuming (drag). While the actors were amazing, but the content of the show to make it edgy was just not appropriate for my 8 yo or the 5 other small children in front of us (who two of them covered their eyes a few times). Plankton (amazing acting) wore fishnet clothes and short leather shorts under a green leather trench. He had a number (that was fabulous for adults) in which he removed and did a provocative dance that I would compare to a strippers dance. While my 13yo's are old enough (I still don't want to expose them to) my 8 yo should not have seen this. Overall there was an edgy side of this show that is great had it been marketed to adults. In addition to the inappropriate content for children, there was a scented smoke machine that was so overwhelming to our experience. Regardless of the content we would have left do the the watering eyes and respiratory irritation. We left at the intermission and were all so relieved to get out of there. I felt like the advertisement of the show is misleading and not fully...
Read moreThe Chopin Theatre is just the place to watch any musical in an intimate setting. It is like walking into your Grandma's house with all the coolest pieces and eclectic style. Just hanging out in the upper and lower levels is a sight to behold. The staff was so helpful and kind. We can not wait for another show here. Beautifully intimate.
We also had the pleasure of meeting an owner of the theatre. She was working hard, slinging drinks with a smile! There is something about seeing an owner with sweat equity that shows their passion.
After making our way to the lower level to select seats, pushing our way through the plastic tacked from the ceilings , we entered into the mind of a killer. Dimly lit. Shredded tarps and countless business cards. The stage in runway fashion, we were fortunate enough to get the side seats closet to the soundboard. It was delicious perfection.
I'm counting the days until we can see another production here! Bravo!
Cheers to another adventure and many more to always be in store!

Read moreI've come to this theatre a few times to see the American Psycho musical. AMAZING!! It's a pretty small and intimate place, it's just chairs to the left and right of a single runway stage but very very well done. I was surprised that actors use all areas of the theatre, so sometimes they're just right next to you singing and dancing, but that made it such an amazing experience. The only confusing bit was the tickets. There is reserved seating, which always gets the first and second row on both sides, then they have general seating and student discount. The student discount is amazing for college students looking for a good time that isn't going to break the bank. But the student ticket is virtually the same as the general admission, so keep that in mind when buying! Overall, sweet staff, beautiful place, beautiful decor, amazing soundtrack, and INCREDIBLE acting!!!! I didn't see a single character break the entire 3 hours. Iconic, definitely coming...
